This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf arc.
Summary
- The Holy Knights’ immortality and regeneration make them formidable foes.
- Imu bestows powers, including immortality, on others like the Holy Knights and Five Elders.
- Conqueror’s Haki and items like Sea Prism Stone may counter the Holy Knights’ abilities.
In the realm of “One Piece”, the Sacred Knights hold significant power and have assumed a crucial position within the Final Saga. As many followers are aware, these figures serve as the chief adversaries in the Elbaf arc. Their mission is to compel the Giant race of Elbaf to yield to the World Government’s authority.
Fortunately for them, their immortal state makes it easier for them to recover from any wounds, giving them an advantage. Yet, this won’t make things a walk in the park for them. Eventually, the secrets of their true vulnerabilities will come to light in One Piece, and perhaps Oda has already hinted at the explanation behind their immortality.
The Immortality Of The Holy Knights And The Five Elders
- The Five Elders Could Recover From Any Damage
- The Holy Knights Can Regenerate Anything
In the storyline known as “Egghead,” viewers were given a closer glimpse at the Five Elders engaging in battle, and it’s clear they are formidable combatants. Their extraordinary ability to regenerate, combined with their centuries-long lifespan, adds to their fearsome nature. The Five Elders are truly monstrous entities, and Egghead served to underscore this. Conversely, fans anticipated the Holy Knights to be more vulnerable, but Oda delivered a shock when he unveiled Gunko’s regenerative powers. Similarly, it was later revealed that all members of the Holy Knights possess this regeneration ability, making their encounters with the Straw Hat Pirates in Elbaf even more challenging.

As an ardent fan of One Piece, I can’t help but feel the anticipation building as we approach the Elbaf arc. Unlike old Egghead, the Straw Hat Pirates can’t just skedaddle from this one; they’ve got to tackle the immortality issue head-on. The coming chapters are all about unraveling this mystery, and I can hardly wait for the moment when the true weakness of this formidable group is exposed!
The Secret Behind The Immortality Is None Other Than Imu
Imu’s Powers Are Passed On To Others
It seems some fans may be curious about the reason behind the immortality of the Five Elders and the Holy Knights in the world of One Piece. The secret lies with Saint Imu, the world’s ruler. Known for his immense power, it is understood that both groups are immortal. This was hinted at by Oda himself through Ivankov, who suggested that Imu might have undergone a Perennial Youth Surgery in the past, which granted him immortality. However, this doesn’t fully answer why the Holy Knights and Five Elders are immortal too.

The truth regarding this matter stems from Imu’s unique ability to grant powers to others, an aspect that has been substantiated in the narrative. For example, Imu wields the Aro Aro no Mi, as demonstrated during his attack on Sabo and Cobra. However, it is Gunko who currently possesses the Aro Aro no Mi in Elbaf. Additionally, fans are aware that Imu had the power to strip Saint Saturn of his regeneration and immortality, resulting in Saturn’s transformation into a skeleton at the end of Egghead. Similarly, it appears that Imu has imbued his followers with the Abyss. In essence, the regenerative properties are tied to the Abyss, which exists because Imu can freely give and take away abilities at will.
The Counter To Immortality Of The Holy Knights
So far, only one method of countering the supposed immortality has been recognized among fans, and that’s the extremely high level of Conqueror’s Haki. This potent form of Haki can effortlessly neutralize the powers of both Holy Knights and Elders. Moreover, in theory, seawater and Sea Prism Stone could also nullify this ability. However, it’s possible that this power could be countered by eliminating the Abyss. For example, if the Abyss were to disappear, the immortality might cease to exist.
Or, if the Holy Knights are prevented from entering the Abyss, then they can be damaged.
