The One Piece series features a wide range of unique powers gained from Devil Fruits, introduced throughout the story. Some of these fruits grant incredibly strong abilities, while others are more ordinary. Early in the series, Devil Fruits weren’t very powerful, but as the story progressed, the author has revealed increasingly impressive ones. Currently, the most powerful Devil Fruit is considered to be the Yami Yami no Mi, or Darkness Fruit, because of its unique ability to negate the powers of other Devil Fruits.
The item is currently held by Blackbeard. Though he’s the only confirmed user so far, the author has heavily suggested that Davy D. Jones – Blackbeard’s ancestor from a long time ago – used it before him.
Davy D. Jones Was A Legendary Devil Fruit User From The Void Century
Blackbeard, whose real name is Marshall D. Teach, is a central figure in the One Piece story. As the series enters its final arc, his role is becoming even more significant, particularly after recent flashbacks revealed details about his past and family.
Blackbeard is unique in the world of One Piece because he has eaten two Devil Fruits. His first, the Yami Yami no Mi, is a darkness-based fruit with incredible power – it can even negate the abilities of other Devil Fruits. During his battle with Ace, the author, Oda, described it as the strongest ability in the series.
Currently, Blackbeard is the only confirmed user of this Devil Fruit, but the author, Oda, strongly suggests that Blackbeard’s ancestor, Davy D. Jones, used it before him. Davy D. Jones lived during the mysterious Void Century and was likely a major opponent of Joy Boy and an enemy of Imu, mirroring the current rivalry between Luffy and Blackbeard. This explains Blackbeard’s intense desire for the fruit and how it ultimately came into his possession. The fruit is clearly more significant than we realize, and Blackbeard understands its true power.

The Yami Yami no Mi Is Essential In The Final Saga of One Piece
The Yami Yami no Mi is considered not just the most powerful Logia-type Devil Fruit, but potentially the strongest Devil Fruit overall, and it will likely play a crucial role in the final fight against Imu. Eiichiro Oda has recently suggested that both the Yami Yami no Mi and Luffy’s fruit, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, are necessary to defeat the World Government – a belief shared by Rocks D. Xebec, who seemingly gained this knowledge from an ancestor with ties to the secrets of the Void Century.
The fruit’s significance in defeating Imu is obvious. It negates other Devil Fruit powers, and should therefore also neutralize Imu’s ability. Currently, Imu possesses the strongest power in the One Piece world, allowing them to enslave others, and is likely immortal because of it. If this fruit can cancel Imu’s powers, it would affect not only Imu, but anyone who carries the Covenants, making them vulnerable to Blackbeard’s abilities.
Allow Mu to show thee the dominance of a God! — Imu, Elbaf Arc
The World Government could be completely destroyed with a single move, making it the most formidable power ever seen. Even against someone as strong as Nika, this Devil Fruit would be incredibly dangerous, effectively shutting down Luffy’s Gear 5 abilities and leaving him vulnerable. It’s easily one of the most, if not the most, dangerous Devil Fruits in the world of One Piece.
