One Piece Strongest Characters Who Were Let Down By Their Crew

Life as a pirate was harsh. Smaller, weaker crews were often defeated and plundered by larger, more powerful ones. Because of this, it was essential for any pirate crew to include a few strong fighters capable of defending themselves and their ship.

Throughout the series One Piece, we’ve seen several powerful characters fail because their crewmates didn’t support them adequately. These failures often had serious consequences, leading to the downfall of the entire crew and the end of their adventures. Here’s a look at some of the strongest characters in One Piece who were ultimately hindered by the actions of their own crew.

Trafalgar Law

  • Affiliation: Heart Pirates

Trafalgar Law leads the Heart Pirates and is considered one of the most powerful members of the ‘Worst Generation’ of pirates. He first gained recognition in the North Blue before setting out on the Grand Line. Over time, he rose in prominence and was appointed a Shichibukai during the time skip. Law’s incredible strength, especially his Devil Fruit ability, was crucial to his success and allowed him to reach such a high status.

Law is a powerful fighter, but his crew isn’t very strong. During the fight with Blackbeard Pirates, they struggled to break through the enemy’s defenses, and Law had to carry most of the battle. Bepo is the only truly capable member, but even he needs to transform using Sulong to face tough opponents. It’s no wonder Blackbeard’s crew easily overwhelmed them with such a weak team.

Whitebeard

  • Affiliation: Whitebeard Pirates

At his peak, Whitebeard was the most intimidating pirate sailing the seas. He ate the Gura Gura no Mi, a powerful Devil Fruit that gave him the ability to create earthquakes. This ability allowed him to strike fear into both other pirates and the Marines, and everyone did their best to avoid provoking him.

Okay, so Whitebeard’s crew had some seriously strong commanders, but honestly, they couldn’t really make a difference when things got tough, especially at Marineford. Guys like Marco, Jozu, and Vista looked amazing at first, but when it came down to it, they just weren’t able to turn the tide. I mean, Marco and Jozu got totally caught off guard and ended up getting wrecked by Kizaru and Aokiji! And it was even worse at the end – they couldn’t even scratch Akainu, which was just heartbreaking to watch.

Gecko Moria

  • Affiliation: Gecko Pirates

Gecko Moria has changed over time. Today, he mostly depends on his Devil Fruit powers and his zombie army. But in the past, Moria was a different person – he stood up for what he believed in and fiercely protected those he cared about. Back then, he wasn’t afraid of anyone, and would even challenge someone as powerful as Kaido.

The battle between Moria and Kaido was legendary, lasting a long time with neither fighter giving way. Eventually, Kaido completely defeated Moria’s crew, which ultimately led to Moria’s decline as a pirate.

Charlotte Katakuri

  • Affiliation: Big Mom Pirates

Charlotte Katakuri is the most powerful commander among Big Mom’s forces. He played a major role in the Whole Cake Island story arc, determined to protect his family at all costs. Katakuri’s powers, including the Mochi Mochi Fruit and the ability to see into the future, allowed him to anticipate many threats, but he underestimated the chaos the Straw Hat Pirates were about to cause.

Katakuri was trying to control the situation and prevent further disaster, but his siblings weren’t helping much. Smoothie, especially, was a letdown, unable to defeat even a single member of the Straw Hat crew. Big Mom herself was incapacitated, unconscious from extreme hunger. Perospero was really the only other pirate on Big Mom’s side who was proving useful during this conflict.

Eustass Kid

  • Affiliation: Kid Pirates

Eustass Kid leads the Kid Pirates and has always been portrayed as incredibly strong, though a bit reckless. His Devil Fruit, the Jiki Jiki no Mi, gives him the ability to attract and repel objects. He primarily relies on this power in battle, which allowed him to awaken it relatively easily.

Besides Kid, Killer was the only truly dependable member of the crew. He even managed to beat Basil Hawkins, another powerful pirate, in a tough fight. Unfortunately, the rest of Kid’s crew were mostly ordinary fighters, not strong enough to make a big impact in the New World.

Crocodile

  • Affiliation: Baroque Works

Before forming the Cross Guild, Crocodile led Baroque Works, a powerful and dangerous group with many skilled fighters. As its leader, Crocodile almost overthrew Nefertari Cobra and sparked a civil war. While Crocodile himself beat Luffy twice, the rest of his crew couldn’t achieve the same victory.

Even a skilled assassin like Daz Bones couldn’t defeat Zoro, even with an advantage. Meanwhile, Crocodile was undone by Robin, who rescued Luffy from a deadly situation. This betrayal led to Crocodile’s defeat and imprisonment. Had the Barqoe Works been slightly more capable, they would have succeeded in their plan.
