This article contains spoilers for the One Piece series.
In the realm of “One Piece,” the name Monkey D. carries quite a daunting reputation. The most legendary Marine bearing this moniker is Monkey D. Garp, who was renowned for his fierce rivalry with the Pirate King. Following that, we have Monkey D. Dragon, a revolutionary figure whose actions pose a significant threat to the World Government. Lastly, there’s Monkey D. Luffy, the central character of our tale. Originating from humble beginnings in East Blue, he has since risen to prominence as one of the Four Emperors, commanding one of the most powerful pirate crews on a quest for the fabled “One Piece.
In the world of One Piece, not many families can match the greatness of the Monkey D. Family. However, there are a chosen few who can give them a run for their money, such as the Rocks family or the Gol D. family, and a handful that might even surpass them in power.
Charlotte Family
Prominent Members: Big Mom, Katakuri, Smoothie, Cracker
The Charlotte clan is exceptionally influential and notable within the realm of One Piece. Remarkably, many of its members serve in the same pirate group, known as the Big Mom Pirates.
Certainly, Big Mom is undeniably the matriarch and founding member of her family, boasting a status as one of the Four Emperors (Yonko) with 85 descendants bearing the Charlotte surname. Among these offspring, several possess formidable strength. Notably, Charlotte Katakuri, who engaged in an epic duel with Luffy during the Whole Cake Island saga, stands out as her strongest child.
Other significant members of this family include Smoothie, Cracker, and Snack, serving as Sweet Commanders under Big Mom’s rule. Additionally, there are Perospero, Oven, and Daifuku, all displaying considerable power in their own right.
However, it’s worth mentioning that the family has experienced a decline in power following Big Mom’s defeat during the Wano Country arc.
Gol D. Family
Prominent Members: Roger, Ace

Known from the last pirate era, Gol D. Roger is the individual who earned the title of Pirate King. In the world of One Piece, only Gol D. Roger has ever held this prestigious position. Not only was he notorious, but he also possessed an impressive strength, being capable of battling characters like Rocks D. Xebec or even Whitebeard.
Roger is known as the sole individual in “One Piece” bearing the surname Gol D, yet it’s important to note that Portgas D. Ace, another member of this family, chose not to adopt his father’s name. Instead, he preferred using his mother’s family name.
Rocks D. Family
Prominent Members: Xebec, Blackbeard

One fascinating family that mangaka Oda has unveiled lately is the Rockstar D. Family. Although fans were already familiar with Rockstar D. Xebec, more details about him have only recently surfaced. Intriguingly, during a flashback to Elbaf, readers finally caught a glimpse of this legendary figure, and it did not disappoint.
In this flashback sequence, viewers learned that this man has a notable son, none other than the infamous Blackbeard. His current name is Edward Teach, but it’s unclear why he uses this name as it may serve to hide his identity or resemble the mystery surrounding Ace. Nonetheless, Teach remains connected to the Rocks family, and there are speculations suggesting that Buggy could also be a part of it.
Figarland Family
Prominent Members: Shanks, Shamrock, Garling
Speaking about families that hold significant power, including those capable of competing with the Monkey D. family, it’s crucial to bring up the Figarland family, one of the 20 ruling families in the world, as depicted in “One Piece.” Although readers may have just been introduced to this family within the series, a notable member has been present since its inception: Shanks. However, it appears that Shanks may have turned away from his familial ties as he doesn’t associate with the Celestial Dragon status.
Apart from Shanks, this family boasts two more remarkable members. One is Figarland Shamrock, who happens to be Shanks’ twin brother. He serves among the Holy Knights and is believed to be one of the strongest individuals within the World Government. The other member is Figarland Garling, their father. Initially a leader of the Holy Knights, he has since been elevated to the Five Elders.
Nerona Family
Prominent Members: Saint Imu

In the world of One Piece, the Nerona family stands out as the most powerful dynasty currently known, with only one member recognized so far. This individual is none other than Saint Imu, the enigmatic figure believed to be the secret ruler of the One Piece universe. Although Imu’s full potential remains unrevealed, it’s undeniable that they possess extraordinary strength. The upcoming events in Elbaf are expected to provide fans with a sneak peek into their unparalleled might, as Imu now occupies Gunko’s body.
While Imu is renowned for making the Nerona family famous, it’s important to note that other members of this respected lineage of Celestial Dragons are also known to exist.
