The final arc of One Piece has begun, and Oda has already established the key characters, including Buggy, who surprisingly became one of the Yonko. Although he might not seem like a major player, Buggy has a hidden, important lineage connected to the mysteries of the Void Century. His role in the story’s conclusion will be huge, similar to that of Red-Haired Shanks, his close friend and rival. While Oda has kept Buggy’s history a secret, it appears he may be connected to the Nefertari family and could even be a descendant of Lily from the Void Century.
Why The Genius Jester Is Connected To The Nefertari D. Family
Buggy’s ancestry will likely play a crucial role as One Piece nears its conclusion. Oda has emphasized his importance by placing him among the series’ most central figures and even designating him a Yonko. Beyond that, Buggy shares a striking similarity with the Nefertari family – his blue hair. Importantly, his background remains largely a mystery. While he was raised by the Roger Pirates, his true origins are still unknown.
While having blue hair isn’t enough on its own to connect Buggy to the Nefertari family, other details provided by the author, Oda, make the connection more likely. Very few characters share the same rare blood type as Vivi and Cobra, and even fewer have blue hair. Buggy is one of the few who does. Both Cobra and Vivi are blood type F, and surprisingly, Buggy also has blood type F.
Analyzing The Blood Relation Between Buggy And Lily
In the story’s conclusion, it was revealed that Queen Nefertari Lily previously allied with the World Government. After the ancient kingdom was defeated, she began helping Joy Boy, and then vanished mysteriously, suggesting Imu was responsible for her disappearance.
When Vivi disappeared, her brother became King Cobra, and she is a direct ancestor in his royal line. It’s likely that Lily’s family continues to exist today, and Buggy, who shares the same blood type and hair color, could be that direct descendant.
Why The Arabasta Queen Had The Bara Bara no Mi
What truly connects Buggy and Lily isn’t physical traits like blood type or hair color – it’s the possibility they share the same powerful Devil Fruit ability. During the Reverie, Imu revealed that Queen Lily was the one who originally spread the Poneglyphs around the world. Her actions drastically shaped the world as we know it, and she prevented the suppression of those with the ‘D’ initial in their names.
The Poneglyphs contain the real history of the world and were created by the Kozuki family. Nine of these Poneglyphs, known as the Rio Poneglyphs, specifically detail the events of the Void Century. These nine stones were spread around the globe, though Nico Robin originally believed they were just one. According to Imu, Queen Lily was the one who scattered them, and the only Devil Fruit capable of allowing her to do so is the Bara Bara no Mi, which is currently used by Buggy.
According to Imu, if Lily hadn’t made that error, the ancient and dangerous Poneglyphs wouldn’t be spread out all over the world.
Buggy’s Devil Fruit, the Bara Bara no Mi, lets him split his body into pieces. If awakened, it might let him do the same to other things nearby. If Lily possessed the awakened version of this fruit, it would explain how she was able to break the Rio Poneglyph into pieces and scatter them around the world, effectively safeguarding the legacy of those with the ‘D’ in their name.

How The New Yonko Will Affect the Plot Of The Final Saga
Something Oda has shown us repeatedly is that Devil Fruits seem to find the people they’re meant to be with. We saw it with Blackbeard and the Yami Yami no Mi, and again with Luffy and the Nika Fruit. So, it makes sense that Buggy ended up with the Bara Bara no Mi – he shares a bloodline with Lily, and it seems like a perfect match. This could mean Buggy is the one destined to collect the Rio Poneglyphs and reveal the world’s true history. Because of that, it feels incredibly important that Buggy actually makes it to Laugh Tale and discovers what really happened.
Many fans see Buggy in One Piece as simply comic relief. However, his ties to the Nefertari family and his involvement with the creation of the Rio Poneglyph reveal a surprisingly crucial role in the story’s overall plot, giving him renewed significance.
