With his mother’s fate uncertain, he finds himself at the helm of a powerful crew with a vast territory to protect, and alliances are a necessity.

This article contains spoilers from the Egghead arc.

In the beloved series “One Piece,” the Big Mom Pirates are known as one of the most formidable pirate groups ever depicted. Until quite recently, they held dominion over a substantial area within the New World, making them a force to be contended with on the ocean’s expanse. The landmass governed by this powerful crew is called Totland, an archipelago consisting of numerous small islands. Big Mom, once an Emperor, presides over Totland as its ruler. Over the post-timeskip era of “One Piece,” a significant focus has been given to the Big Mom Pirates. In Wano, they experienced a major setback when their leader, Big Mom herself, was defeated.

As a dedicated fan, I find myself pondering over the current suspended state of the Big Mom Pirates. However, knowing the exceptional storytelling skills of Oda, it’s clear that their narrative won’t remain in this limbo. The future undoubtedly holds more captivating moments for these pirates, and I firmly believe they will regain the limelight soon. Moreover, the enigmatic land of Elbaf could be the ideal setting for them to shine once again.

The Current Fate Of The Big Mom Pirates After Wano

The Big Mom Pirates Are Reeling

In the Wano Country storyline, the Big Mom Pirates set sail for the land of Wano with the intention of avenging Luffy’s actions. Big Mom brought along some of her top commanders but left others behind to safeguard Whole Cake Island. Regrettably, this decision resulted in a series of unfortunate events. The pirates left at Whole Cake Island were attacked by the Blackbeard Pirates and endured heavy losses, exacerbated by the Germa invasion. Despite valiant efforts from key members like Katakuri, Cracker, Oven, and others to defend the island, they struggled to maintain control, particularly against the formidable pirate forces that assaulted it.

1. Pudding was abducted simultaneously with the possible theft from the Road Poneglyph they possessed, along with other items. Simultaneously, the Book Prison where the Vinsmoke Siblings were kept was also raided, resulting in their escape from Big Mom’s collection. Coincidentally, during this time, Big Mom Pirates found themselves separated from their captain, Big Mom, allowing viewers to witness her involvement in the Onigashima War within Wano territory.

I guess you are looking far in the future. – Katakuri

In the heat of the ongoing war, Perospero, Big Mom’s eldest son, also got entangled. Unfortunately, even the combined might of Kid and Law managed to overpower Big Mom. Despite her extraordinary efforts, she was defeated. It’s debatable whether she received a fair fight, but what stands undeniable is that she fell in battle. This defeat signaled a significant weakening of the Big Mom Pirates’ power as fans had come to know it.

One Piece: The Big Mom Pirates' Role In Elbaf, Explained

At the current moment, Kaido and Big Mom have plunged down, and their survival status is uncertain. It’s possible that they might be deceased, but there’s also a chance that Oda will surprise us by showing they’re still alive. Towards the end of the Wano Country arc, the Big Mom Pirates were spotted, engaging in a brief skirmish with CP0, which they managed to overcome unscathed.

Is There More In Store For The Big Mom Pirates?

The Big Mom Pirates Have A Bigger Story To Tell The Fans

One Piece: The Big Mom Pirates' Role In Elbaf, Explained

Fans recently got to see the Big Mom Pirates when Vegapunk’s message was going on and it was clear to see that Katakuri, among many other members of the pirate crew, were present on Whole Cake Island. This clearly suggests that the territory that the Big Mom Pirates hold is still there. The pirate crew has not been defeated, and it is also possible that the Big Mom Pirates have seen the return of their captain, Big Mom. It is either that, or, if Big Mom is truly dead, then, Katakuri, the second son of the former Yonko, has taken command of this crew and is now thinking of what steps to take next in order to ensure the integrity of this crew, and with that, the family.

There absolutely has to be more in store for the Big Mom Pirates and that much is a given.

Oda skillfully weaves his plotlines tightly, and it’s clear that the Big Mom Pirates can’t just hang in the balance. Although their Road Poneglyphs might not be crucial for the overall story anymore, the territory they control remains exposed. Since Katakuri is the captain now, he must defend this territory, which could mean forming alliances. With Luffy being a Yonko, he’s the only one Katakuri can potentially ally with at this moment. Other potential allies wouldn’t be trustworthy, so an alliance with Luffy would make sense given his position as captain. This scenario would thrill fans since it would offer them a chance to witness these two formidable characters fighting together.

How The Big Mom Pirates Could Play A Role In Elbaf

The Big Mom Pirates Could Be Headed To Elbaf Soon

The Big Mom Pirates might significantly impact events on Elbaf in two scenarios: one, if Big Mom survives, her connection to Elbaf could bring the crew there more urgently than ever before, given Oda’s frequent emphasis on this link in the storyline. Two, even as a villain, Big Mom no longer poses a threat to Luffy. In essence, she is essentially a good person who acts in misguided ways. Her past traumas could find resolution in Elbaf, making it an ideal place for her healing. If Big Mom remains alive and continues leading her crew, there’s a chance she may join forces with the Straw Hat Pirates.

1. “Please refrain from siding with either man in a dispute! If you find one of them amusing, feel free to chuckle at both!”

Fans are excited about the possibility of Big Mom visiting Elbaf to pursue Straw Hat Luffy. If Luffy manages to help Big Mom recall things related to Elbaf, they might become friends and forgive past wrongs. This alliance could result in a strong partnership between them, as their objectives coincide. It’s important to note that Big Mom cannot become the Pirate King, but her main goal is to establish a harmonious society where everyone can gather, understand each other, and enjoy a grand celebration. Luffy shares this vision, so he might be willing to assist Big Mom in achieving it.

Instead, if Big Mom is indeed deceased and Katakuri assumes leadership of his crew, he’ll likely need to find safety for Totto Land and its inhabitants. To achieve this, he might approach a Yonko, with Luffy being an ideal choice given their history. This could lead fans to witness Katakuri seeking an alliance on Elbaf, where they could unite forces to combat the various threats on the island and pave the way for their future endeavors.
