In the epic saga of One Piece, some pivotal revelations that have significantly altered the understanding of the world for fans have emerged during the Elbaf flashback. These disclosures, particularly those concerning the genesis of the legendary Rocks Pirates and their notorious captain, Rocks D. Xebec, have left a lasting impact. Nevertheless, there remains one intriguing enigma surrounding him.
In a breathtaking display of strength within the storyline of “One Piece”, Rockstar somehow breached the Chamber of Flowers to stand before Imu. Before departing, he declared his affinity for Davy Jones. This unresolved aspect has left fans puzzled, leading many to speculate that Rockstar may have alluded to the most legendary pirate in history who was active centuries ago.
Davy Jones Was The Great Villain During The Second World Of One Piece
Joyboy’s Rival
- Davy Jones may have been Joyboy’s ancient rival.
Within the captivating tale of One Piece, I’ve noticed a striking similarity between characters that seem to hail from different eras of this world. This is where the profound concept of Inherited Will comes into play. It posits that people’s dreams and ambitions don’t vanish with their departure, but instead are reborn within those who follow in their footsteps, pursuing the same objectives with unyielding determination. Much like this concept, there appear to be recurring roles within this world.
In simpler terms, Roger and Luffy often share a common theme throughout their adventures, as both aspire to become the Pirate King and, in doing so, create quite an upheaval in the world. They also possess similar characteristics – they are optimistic pirates who spread happiness wherever they go, a trait reminiscent of Joyboy from the Void Century, who held a similar role as these characters did. This seems to be a deliberate comparison by Oda.
Originally known as Joyboy, he was the pioneer who dared to venture out onto the oceans – the one who earned the infamous title of being the first recognized pirate!
Through their shared goal, we can draw a parallel between Roger and Luffy’s rivals. These adversaries, known as the most wicked pirates of their time, aim for the same objective as them, but for contrasting motives. For Roger, it was Rocks who played the antagonist role, while Blackbeard currently fills this position for Luffy. These two formidable enemies have publicly declared their ambition to rule the world, coveting power, absolute control, and the liberty to act as they please.
From what we see here, it seems reasonable to suppose that during Joyboy’s time, there existed someone who filled the same antagonistic role as a pirate seeking global domination – this individual might have been Davy Jones, a character with contrasting characteristics to Joyboy and potentially the biggest hindrance in his quest for universal peace and freedom.

The primary concern raised against this theory is the character of Imu. Critics suggest that Imu must have been Joyboy’s adversary because they detected his Haki after Emet released it from the knot on Egghead. However, it’s not necessarily true that Imu was Joyboy’s rival. Imu might have existed since the First World or could have even been a former member of Joyboy’s crew who betrayed the legendary pirate. This doesn’t automatically disprove Davy Jones being Joyboy’s rival theory.
In simpler terms, some people argue that Imu is not Joyboy’s rival, but it’s possible that Imu was around since the beginning or was once a part of Joyboy’s crew and then betrayed him. However, this doesn’t mean Davy Jones can’t still be Joyboy’s rival.
In simpler terms, Rocks conveyed to Imu that Davy Jones’ legacy, a powerful figure from long ago, persists until now. This isn’t just D’s will that they should beware of; another ancient and alternative will connected to D is also at large, with ambitions to control the world. Such information sets up an intriguing scenario for Luffy and Blackbeard’s climactic encounter in the Final War.
Could Davy Jones Be A Legendary Figure From The First World Of One Piece?
An Ancient Threat

Story Arc | Elbaf |
In a different interpretation, it’s proposed that Davy Jones might have played an antagonistic role similar to what we know of later, long before the era known as Joyboy. The Harley Texts hint that the occurrences during the Void Century transpired in the Second World. Given Davy Jones’ unparalleled fame as a pirate, both within the world of “One Piece” and in reality, it’s possible that he may have been Nika’s rival in the First World.
Actually, the theory you mentioned seems less plausible compared to the previous one. This is primarily due to Vegapunk’s statement during his broadcast that Joyboy was the first global pirate ever recognized. In contrast, we learn from the Long Ring Long Land arc that Davy Jones was a well-known pirate. Given this information, it seems unlikely for Davy Jones to have been a pirate before Joyboy’s time. However, let’s remember that speculation is always enjoyable, and only future revelations can confirm the truth about this legendary character.
