One Piece: The Wings Of The Pirate King, Explained

This post contains spoilers for One Piece.

From the very start of One Piece, fans have always remembered Luffy’s dream: to become the Pirate King. He began his journey hidden in a barrel, and now commands a massive fleet. Luffy has definitely grown since then, and while his own efforts are a big reason why, he wouldn’t be where he is today without the help of his loyal crew.

Luffy’s crew of nine members each have important jobs as he strives to become the Pirate King. But Roronoa Zoro and Sanji have consistently been his strongest supporters – they’re often called the “Wings of the Pirate King.” This nickname was given to them by Nico Robin during the Wano arc of One Piece, and fans have been debating what it truly means ever since.

Zoro And Sanji Are The Wings Of The Pirate King

  • Zoro and Sanji are equal in strength
  • They will help Luffy to achieve his goal

Zoro and Sanji have consistently fought hard for Luffy, and they have unwavering faith in his dream. As two of the strongest members of the crew – alongside Luffy, they form what’s known as the Monster Trio. Because of their incredible power, they’re usually the ones who take on the most dangerous opponents in each adventure.

Watching Luffy fight, it’s clear even someone as powerful as him has limits to how many opponents he can handle at once. That’s where Zoro and Sanji really shine. When Nico Robin talked about the ‘Wings of the Pirate King,’ I understood it to mean Zoro and Sanji are the ones who will be there to support Luffy’s dream and help him achieve his goal, carrying him through to the very end.

Zoro And Sanji Are Equal In Strength

Oda Has Reiterated That They Are Equal Multiple Times

Fans of One Piece used to argue a lot about whether Zoro or Sanji was stronger, with most leaning towards Zoro. However, that wasn’t actually true. Now, with a recent comment from Nico Robin, it’s become even clearer that they’re evenly matched. They’re known as the ‘Wings of the Pirate King,’ and just like real wings, they need to be equal to function properly – one can’t be more powerful than the other.

Further supporting this idea is how the Roger Pirates are portrayed. Eiichiro Oda has repeatedly emphasized that Silvers Rayleigh and Scopper Gaban were equally powerful and served as Roger’s top officers – Rayleigh as his right-hand man and Gaban as his left. This comparison of them being Roger’s ‘arms’ is similar to Nico Robin’s observation about Sanji and Zoro being Zoro and Sanji.

Zoro And Sanji’s Power-Up In The Final Saga

Zoro And Sanji Need More Powers

As the story reaches its climax, Zoro and Sanji will face enemies more powerful than any they’ve encountered before. To overcome these challenges, they both need to become stronger. Currently, the action is focused on Elbaf, where the Holy Knights and Imu are causing trouble. Zoro and Sanji aren’t equipped to handle this level of threat with their current abilities, making power-ups crucial. Zoro has already shown the potential of Advanced Conqueror’s Haki, but he needs to fully master it. His focus will be on gaining complete control, allowing him to significantly strengthen his attacks and defeat the Holy Knights and other similarly strong opponents.

Many fans are anticipating Sanji developing Conqueror’s Haki, a powerful ability in the series. While he hasn’t shown it yet, some wonder if he even possesses it. However, considering his importance as a key member of the future Pirate King’s crew, it’s highly likely he will. Fans just need to wait – Sanji will likely unlock Conqueror’s Haki eventually and then learn to master it.

Ultimately, Zoro and Sanji need to master Conqueror’s Haki to overcome the immortality of powerful enemies like the Holy Knights, the Five Elders, and Imu. Without fully developing this ability, they won’t be able to effectively assist Luffy in battles against these seemingly invincible foes.
