- Despite being canonically used for non-combat purposes, Usopp’s pop greens offer strategic advantages and utility in various situations.
The gap in time has given numerous characters in “One Piece,” especially those belonging to the Straw Hat Pirates, opportunities to acquire new talents that they previously lacked. For instance, Usopp, often perceived as the weakest member of the Straw Hat Pirates due to his physical prowess, demonstrates intelligence and resourcefulness. He employs strategic thinking, his sharpshooting skills, and whatever tools he can learn to use effectively to achieve his objectives.
After spending time with Heracles, a warrior and botanist, Usopp learned about fast-growing seeds called “pop greens.” Using his Kuro Kabuto, a small slingshot filled with grass, he launches these greens into various situations. He finds them useful in numerous scenarios and even grows them on the Thousand Sunny for personal use. This list ranks the pop greens based on their utility, considering only canon uses. The greens could be stronger or more efficient, but Usopp’s attempts to use them have held them back. All techniques using pop greens that have been identified so far are part of the Midori Boshi, or Green Star, attacks.
14. Sprinkler
A Fire-Dousing Green

The sprinkler appears to work much like the device it’s named after. It looks similar to a garden sprinkler used for watering lawns, but initially, we saw Usopp using it to fight fires instead. In concept, this tool might prove useful, but its introduction was fruitless, as Usopp couldn’t extinguish the Onigashima fire with it on his own.
There’s a possibility that the plant might effectively smother small blazes or possibly water Usopp’s other plants. However, so far, it seems to only demonstrate what it is incapable of doing.
13. Platanus Shuriken
A Throwing Star Green

In simpler terms, the green object transforms into a leaf that looks like those found on plane trees, known for their star-shaped leaves. Instead of being weapons that can slice opponents, these leaves are more like projectiles. Unfortunately, in the story, Usopp has yet to successfully harm any enemies with them, as demonstrated when he couldn’t hurt Trebol and later failed against Kurozumi Kanjuro as well, even in the anime.
There might have been a chance Usopp could’ve hurt Trebol if not for the layer of mucus on his body. This extra feature of his Devil Fruit often makes people think he’s a Logia user, which helps him dodge their attacks by blending in.
12. Exploding Pinecones
Nature’s Grenades

This green item morphs into a cluster of pinecones that detonate after a specific period. The intensity of these blasts isn’t clear, but Page One seems unfazed. It appears that a less resilient adversary might have been knocked off balance by the force.
page one is recognized for his exceptional toughness. He’s part of the elite group known as the Flying Six, making him one of the ten highest-ranking members of the Beasts Pirates in terms of influence and physical prowess. This level of resilience is typically expected from Kaido’s top lieutenants.
11. Rafflesia
Has An Overpowering Stench

The Rafflesia is named after a real-life bloom often referred to as the “stink flower” due to its look and scent. Usopp utilized a particularly big one to overpower Hody Jones and some of his followers by its foul smell. However, it wasn’t potent enough to deter Hody himself, who found the tactic unimpressive.
10. Trampolia
A Solid Set-Up

The Trampolia resembles a giant, blue-surfaced bloom. Standing on this surface propels you upwards, allowing Usopp to shower additional attacks from above. While it effectively disorients opponents, it doesn’t deal significant damage by itself.
9. Humandrake
Planted Shackles

1. “Humandrakes are plants resembling humans that suddenly spring up from the ground when stepped on, perpetuating an old belief they scream when dug up. These peculiar plants coil their roots around attackers, pinning them down. Usopp utilized this trait along with Trampolia to prevent Daruma from slipping away.”
2. “Humandrakes are ground-dwelling green creatures that leap out when trodden upon, reflecting a folklore they scream as they’re extracted. Upon encountering danger, these strange plants entwine their roots around the aggressor, immobilizing them. Usopp employed this feature in conjunction with Trampolia to ensure Daruma would not break free.”
3. “Humandrakes are mysterious green plants that erupt from the ground when stepped on, echoing a legend they cry out as they’re pulled up. When threatened, these peculiar plants ensnare their attackers by wrapping their roots around them, keeping them in place. Usopp used this ability together with Trampolia to make certain Daruma wouldn’t escape.”
8. Sleep Grass
A Tiresome Flower

The “Sleep Grass” blooms a flower that can render nearby individuals unconscious. Usopp employed this flower to render Beasts Pirates unconscious. This implies it’s probable to knock out low-level subordinates, making it perfect for Usopp when he wants to infiltrate without creating a fuss.
7. Firework Flowers
A Rainbow Explosion

This green substance functions similar to a natural, adhesive time-bomb for plants. Instead of explosions, it triggers vibrant flower displays that mimic fireworks when activated. These flowers weaken the target, managing to keep Komachiyo off Page One, although they did not completely vanquish him.
6. Bamboo Javelin
Uproots the Competition

This towering bamboo plant grows vertically and can impale its adversaries. It can be an effective tactic for eliminating weaker enemies during large conflicts, such as Hody’s subordinates from the New Fish-Man Pirates. Yet, it proves ineffective when faced with a formidable opponent like Page One, who is strong enough to counteract the bamboo itself.
5. Skull Bomb Grass
An Explosive Plant

As its moniker suggests, Skull Bomb Grass detonates with force, creating a red cloud shaped like a skull. Usopp utilized this explosive to dislodge Daruma from the tunnel system he had constructed, aiming for a decisive victory. This was the initial move in a strategic series of green-themed attacks intended to incapacitate Daruma swiftly and effectively.
In The Egghead Arc, we see Usopp employing what seems to be a more powerful variation of his attack. Interestingly, the number 1000 appears in the smoke during the anime, which is probably a humorous nod to the fact that this was episode 1000 of the One Piece series.
4. Devil
A Terrifying Venus Flytrap

Among the formidable assortment of greens I wield, none strikes terror quite like the colossal Venus flytrap-like creature known as the Devil. In battle, this monster doesn’t just snare foes with its gaping maw, but also entangles them with vines that act as additional restraints. And
3. Impact Wolf
The Wolf of Green Star

From this point, a colossal plant resembling a wolf emerges, its verdant hue transforming into the snout. Upon collision, the wolfish plant unleashes a powerful shockwave, knocking unconscious Daruma – a fish-man known for his strength 40 times greater than human’s underwater abilities, who had also been boosted by energy steroids.
2. Boaty Banana & Fan Grass
A 2-Green Ensemble

Instead of acting aggressively like many other green plants, these pair of leafy greens serve a functional purpose as a transport vessel. These tough plants were sturdy enough to travel across water. The Boaty Banana is a plant shaped like a boat that can carry several individuals, and the Fan Grass functions as makeshift oars that passengers could utilize to guide the boat through the water. This pair of greens complement each other for optimal utility, filling a role that most other leafy plants do not address.
1. Sargasso
A Huge Restraint

The vast expanse of Sargasso, often resembling enormous seaweed, was utilized to safeguard the Thousand Sunny from an underwater avalanche. Although it’s not combat-focused, its role in disaster prevention underscores that Usopp’s pop greens should not be solely judged by their destructive capabilities. In fact, without the Sargasso, the avalanche might have sunk the Thousand Sunny and potentially endangered the lives of the Straw Hat crew themselves.
