Marineford is undeniably among the most emotionally charged and beloved storylines in “One Piece.” This arc significantly boosted the series’ popularity and resonated with fans in a profound way. Its masterful execution, hitting all the right notes at every turn, has cemented it as one of the greatest fictional arcs in history.

As an ardent fan of “One Piece,” I can confidently assert that this epic series reaches its zenith with the breathtaking battle at Marineford. It wasn’t just about showcasing impressive abilities and powers; it was a heart-wrenching sibling rivalry. I watched in despair as Luffy tried valiantly to save his brother Ace, but ultimately came up short. Kaido And Shanks’s Battle Before Marineford

Kaido and Shanks Met In The New World Shortly Before The War

Kaido, recognized by fans as one of the Four Sea Emperors and among the strongest characters in One Piece, was previously titled the mightiest pirate and even the strongest being alive. His power was formidable, with few able to challenge him. However, there were others of equal strength, namely the Yonko, who could hold their own against Kaido. This came to a head around the time of the Paramount War. Prior to its commencement, it was anticipated that Whitebeard would assault Navy Headquarters. There was speculation that he would target Impel Down as well, and indeed, he made it seem imminent. The Navy’s scouting vessels were all destroyed by Whitebeard and his associates. In response, the Marines fortified their HQ with 100,000 soldiers, some of whom were historical powerhouses like Garp, Sengoku, and most significantly, the Three Admirals.

In due course, Whitebeard arrived at Marineford, shocking all present as he emerged from beneath the waves. The Marines had been preparing for his arrival, while pirates worldwide were aware of his plans. Similarly anticipating this move was Kaido, another Yonko, who saw this as an opportunity to engage in a long-awaited battle with Whitebeard. Their shared past as members of the Rocks Pirates made this confrontation significant to Kaido, and he didn’t want to miss out on the chance. However, Shanks, another Yonko, intervened, preventing Kaido from facing off against Whitebeard.

In the manga, it’s revealed that Shanks and Kaido clashed in a brief battle prior to the start of the Paramount War. This encounter occurred the day before the conflict began, implying that Kaido was nearly reaching the Marine Headquarters. Somewhere in the New World, Shanks managed to stop Kaido, compelling him to withdraw. The fight between these two powerful figures is confirmed, and it’s suggested that the outcome was a draw since neither one emerged as the clear victor. Kaido didn’t lose, as shown by his unharmed condition during the Marineford arc, and Shanks remained unscathed as well.

What Would Happen If Kaido Came To Marineford?

Kaido Would Battle The Navy First In Marineford

One Piece: What If Kaido Came To Marineford?

It’s unfortunate that Kaido didn’t attend Marineford, causing disappointment among fans. Yet, imagining how thrilling the event would have been with his presence is an intriguing idea to consider.

In this hypothetical situation, Kaido arrives at Marineford after Whitebeard without interfering with his journey. It is important to note that Kaido would aim to defeat Whitebeard due to the latter’s weakened state and impending suicide mission against the Marines and the Navy. With Whitebeard’s condition in mind, Kaido would initially target him for battle. However, the Marines wouldn’t just stand by and watch as two significant pirate crews engage in a conflict. A major battle between Whitebeard and Kaido would ensue at the start, resulting in an evenly matched outcome. To add to the intrigue, this confrontation could involve the use of Conqueror’s Haki, causing a spectacular sky-splitting clash (despite Whitebeard being unable to employ this power at that point).

After their fierce encounter, Whitebeard and Kaido came to realize that for a fair and effective battle, they required more room and fewer distractions. Consequently, their focus would initially be on the Navy. Despite his intimidating appearance, Kaido is an honorable combatant who despises interference in his fights. Thus, eliminating any hindrances was Kaido’s priority. This can be seen from his past experiences, such as when Oden was distracted during their battle and Kaido dealt him a cheap shot. Additionally, Kaido was infuriated when Guernica interfered in his fight against Luffy, leading him to win deceitfully. Considering his character traits, it’s clear that Kaido would target the Navy, which would significantly alter the course of the war.

How Kaido’s Arrival Would Change The Fate Of The World

Kaido At Marineford Would Turn The Tides Of The Era Forever

Previously determined, Kaido is expected to confront Whitebeard and subsequently target the Navy. Though this collision benefits Whitebeard, they will not cooperate in defeating their mutual foes. Kaido acts in pursuit of his objectives, whereas Whitebeard aims to save Ace. Furthermore, Kaido’s All-Stars accompany him, making this clash a more formidable challenge for the Marines than anticipated. Even at their peak, the Admirals would struggle to contain both Whitebeard’s and Kaido’s most potent commanders. If these two powerful figures join forces against an Admiral, they stand a good chance of emerging victorious. Characters like Marco and King could effectively coordinate against Sakazuki, while others would do the same against the other two Admirals. The remaining Division Commanders will unite against the Marines’ Vice Admirals, leaving Garp and Sengoku as the final line of defense.

During this battle, it is expected that Whitebeard and Kaido will engage Garp and Sengoku personally. Fans are aware that Whitebeard and Kaido represent these characters. With regards to the potential matchups, from a power standpoint, it seems logical for Whitebeard to tackle the more powerful adversary, possibly Garp. Alternatively, Garp might face off against Kaido. However, from a thematic perspective, it would be more intriguing if Whitebeard battled Sengoku due to their shared past.

Despite this, a colossal clash would unfold between Kaido and Sengoku, with Kaido having a strong chance of winning. On the other hand, the fight between Garp and Whitebeard would be more balanced. Since Garp was inclined towards saving Ace, he could yield, thereby letting the Whitebeard Pirates advance.

One Piece: What If Kaido Came To Marineford?

Luffy is an essential factor that cannot be overlooked in this scenario. With all hindrances out of the way, Luffy would undoubtedly save Ace for the second time, rescuing him from the Government’s grip, as previously depicted in the storyline. This occasion, however, finds Akainu preoccupied due to other formidable pirates at Marineford, providing an excellent opportunity for Luffy to escape.

Based on the current circumstances, it is unlikely that Ace will meet his demise in this scene. With numerous pirates present, it’s implausible that every formidable character would be occupied, leaving Ace an unobstructed path toward one of the ships for a safe retreat.

At approximately the same period, Kaido aimed his next target at Whitebeard, leading to an impending clash between these two formidable warriors. Despite Whitebeard’s deteriorating health and inability to employ Conqueror’s Haki effectively, his indomitable spirit would keep him engaged till the very end. This confrontation could prove fatal for both parties, but there exists a possible intervener who might thwart this outcome.

After the outcome of this conflict, Shanks is expected to reappear. In contrast to his previous actions, he might act as a mediator and prevent disorder from ensuing. The fighting would cease, making it probable that Marineford will belong to the Pirates’ triumphant side.

An alternate scenario might play out with Blackbeard making an appearance at a critical moment. He could surprise Whitebeard, much like in the Paramount War, and take his devil fruit by killing him. This act would anger Kaido, leading to a long-standing grudge between them that could have been developed further in One Piece over the next two years. At the same time, Whitebeard’s selfless sacrifice for Ace would pave the way for him to become the next captain of the Whitebeard Pirates.
