This post contains spoilers for One Piece.
Edward Newgate, more commonly referred to as Whitebeard, is often thought to be one of the most powerful, arguably the most powerful, characters in the annals of One Piece. Whitebeard was introduced prior to the timeskip, and it didn’t take long for him to captivate viewers. However, his true might was best demonstrated during the Marineford arc, where he nearly overwhelmed the entire Marine force single-handedly.
Whitebeard Was Called The Strongest Pirate In One Piece
Whitebeard Was Stronger Than Most
- Whitebeard had the Gura Gura no Mi
- He could use all three types of Haki
Whitebeard, often referred to as the ‘pirate with unmatched strength’ and the ‘monarch of the oceans’, undeniably stood head and shoulders above his peers. A significant factor contributing to his extraordinary might was the Gura Gura no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that granted him the ability to generate seismic vibrations at will. This power enabled Whitebeard to unleash tsunamis and earthquakes, devastating forces capable of annihilating entire islands. Thus, it was not an exaggeration when they said Whitebeard possessed the power to bring about the end of the world.
Regardless of what you label me – whether it’s a demon or a beast – know that I am but a single individual with a solitary heart. And though I may seem unstoppable now, there will come a time when even the mightiest must falter and fall.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but marvel at the extraordinary might of the legendary Whitebeard! Besides his formidable Devil Fruit powers, what truly sets him apart is his mastery of Haki – a mystical energy that few can command. He’s one of the rare individuals who can wield all three types of Haki, and at their peak levels no less!
His physical prowess is equally remarkable; even in his advanced years, Whitebeard has shown time and again that he’s no pushover. Bullet wounds and sword attacks left him standing tall, demonstrating an unparalleled toughness that’s hard to ignore.
Yet, there’s one pirate whose strength eclipses even Whitebeard’s – a true force of nature in the world of One Piece!
Rocks D. Xebec Was Stronger Than Whitebeard
Rocks Was Superior To Whitebeard
Prior to his days as Whitebeard, Edward Newgate served under the command of Rocks D. Xebec, a pirate renowned for his notoriety that outshines many Yonko. Rocks managed feats that would be considered unachievable even by the likes of Yonko. To start with, Rocks breached the fortified city of Marijoa during the Reverie. He knew the security measures would be stringent, yet he still dared to venture into the sacred land. Once inside Marijoa, Rocks abducted no less than five Monarchs.
After the pirate engaged in a fierce battle with a Marine Admiral, he inflicted fatal wounds upon him. Despite the efforts of the top-tier medical team, they were unable to save the Admiral’s life. Meanwhile, an elite group was storming Imu’s Flower Chamber. Large stones were hurled into the chamber, and Imu received a warning that he would be returning in the future.
It’s apparent that Rocks came to understand that he couldn’t defeat Imu and the World Government on his own, so he adopted a new strategy. Rocks joined the Davy Back fights and gathered potent allies. Although they didn’t agree on everything, they all shared a common goal of reaching the pinnacle.
Rocks D. Xebec Could Have Become The First Pirate King

In the world of One Piece, Rocks D. Xebec’s Haki is undeniably powerful, a fact made clear during his confrontation with Harald in Marijoa. The force generated from their clash was so intense that it caused devastation spanning multiple kilometers. By blending his Haki with his mastery of swordsmanship, Rocks developed one of the most destructive combat styles found within the series.
In the comic book, Rocks’ sword strikes were as powerful as cannon blasts. Using this combat style, Rocks shattered the Barriers of Righteousness and managed to flee. Breaking the barriers was an impressive accomplishment, and not many characters possess such power.
The immense power of Rocks was no understatement, making him a formidable foe for Roger and Garp. This shared understanding led them to join forces to defeat him. Historically at odds, these two often clashed, but this time they set aside their rivalry in an effort to bring an end to Rocks’ reign. Without their united front, it seems likely that Rocks would have emerged victorious from God Valley and achieved his goals. Author Oda will reveal more about Rocks and his life in upcoming chapters, leaving fans to speculate until then. It is noteworthy that when the flashback concludes, readers will gain a clearer picture of how the Elbaf arc and the rest of the Final Saga unfold.
