Out of all the bad guys in One Piece, Doflamingo really takes the cake as the most flamboyant and downright evil. I was shocked to learn he even killed his own father when he was just a kid. But it didn’t stop there – he was also incredibly cruel to the people in his territory, turning them into emotionless playthings. And after the Celestial Dragons rejected his attempt to regain his noble status, despite everything he’d done, he just seemed to want to see the whole world fall apart.
Despite being a powerful figure in the past, Luffy wasn’t intimidated by danger and teamed up with Law to defeat him. This led to his capture and imprisonment in Impel Down. However, with a massive showdown over a legendary treasure on the horizon, this popular and dramatic villain is almost certain to escape and reappear.
When is Doflamingo Returning?
With the conclusion of the Wano Saga, One Piece has begun its final story arc. The Egghead and Elbaf arcs have significantly added to the series’ backstory and brought together the characters who will likely fight in the ultimate battle. We’ve even seen familiar faces return, including Wapol, Vivi, Crocodile, and the Giants. As the race for the One Piece heats up and old rivalries resurface, we can expect even more characters from the past to reappear – and Doflamingo is almost certainly one of them.
Doflamingo is a major player who can’t be overlooked, largely because of his unique history. He’s descended from the Celestial Dragons and has created a powerful criminal network. Considering he still appears eager for action, it’s likely he’s simply waiting for the perfect moment to make his move.
How is Doflamingo Escaping Impel Down?
Impel Down is known as an inescapable prison, but that reputation is starting to crumble. It’s been broken out of twice – once by Shiki the Golden Lion, and again by Luffy’s crew. With the world in such turmoil, another escape seems likely, especially since dangerous prisoners like Doflamingo, Bon Clay, and Weevil are still held there.
Just those three individuals would be a powerful force capable of attempting another escape. Doflamingo is a seasoned leader, and he’s ruthless enough to use others to get what he wants. But they might not even need to break out on their own.
The Cross Guild has quickly become a major power in the New World, recognized as one of the four Emperor crews. They’re growing their influence by offering rewards for capturing Marines, attracting anyone willing to turn them in. Now that Buggy has announced their ambition to compete for the One Piece treasure, they need to significantly increase their strength to stand against the other Emperors and the World Government. Their target for gaining that power? The notorious Impel Down prison!

What Role Will Doflamingo Play?
Even though Luffy defeated Doflamingo and freed his people, he’s not giving up. He still wants to tear down the entire system created by the World Nobles. To do that, he could team up with different groups.
The Cross Guild seems like a natural fit for Doflamingo. They already have two former Warlords, and he’d align perfectly with their goal of targeting the Marines. His extensive network of contacts would greatly expand the Guild’s influence, and he could likely operate independently. However, Doflamingo’s pride might be an issue, as he doesn’t like taking orders. Another possibility is the Blackbeard Pirates. Teach believes pirates only need a shared objective, and Doflamingo would fit that bill. Blackbeard values strength and intelligence, so he’d probably be very happy to have a strategist as skilled as Doflamingo on his crew.
Doflamingo might team up with the Straw Hat Pirates to battle the World Government. Luffy previously allied with Crocodile during the Marineford arc, so a similar partnership isn’t far-fetched, especially considering Doflamingo’s somewhat naive nature. No matter who Doflamingo sides with, the World Nobles will need to strengthen their defenses.
