Summary
- Dreams in One Piece drive character motivations, like Luffy’s ambition to become the King of Pirates.
- Tashigi’s dream to reclaim all Meito swords is considered the most ambitious in the series.
- Tashigi faces insurmountable challenges in obtaining the most coveted Supreme Grade Weapons.
As a seasoned One Piece fan who’s witnessed countless battles and followed the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates for years, I can confidently say that Tashigi’s dream of collecting all the Meito seems like a challenge even Luffy himself would find daunting. Her journey is reminiscent of a modern-day Fujitora trying to collect every rusty old can opener from the world’s most formidable pirates – it’s just not going to happen easily!
In the grand narrative of “One Piece,” dreams play a crucial role as they fuel the personal ambitions and adventures of the series’ key characters. The storyline originated from Luffy’s dream to rule as the Pirate King, a goal that appeared unattainable initially but is now more achievable than for many throughout history. Dreams, no matter how improbable they may seem, continue to persist in people’s hearts.
It’s clear that some dreams are more straightforward than others. For instance, Brook’s dream of reuniting with Laboon is comparatively easier to accomplish than Zoro’s goal of defeating Mihawk and becoming the world’s strongest swordsman. Nevertheless, when we consider Captain Tashigi’s dream, it appears to be a much greater challenge, so let’s delve into her ambition to understand why it might be the most challenging in all of One Piece.
What Is Tashigi’s Dream?
A Look At Impossible Ambitions
First Appearance | One Piece, Chapter 96, “Greatest Evil of the East” |
---|---|
Debut Date | July 12, 1999 |
Story Arc | Loguetown |
Introduced before the Straw Hats even made their way to the Grand Line, Tashigi made her dream clear right from the jump when she encountered Zoro at the sword shop. Tashigi spoke about the Fine, Great, and Supreme Grade Blades, explaining what these weapons were and why they are so revered. Here, she explains that her dream is to recover all of these legendary named blades, or ‘Meito’, from undeserving criminal hands.
Tashigi is a powerful fighter who wields a sword with expertise. She can even boost her strikes with rudimentary Armament Haki. On her global adventure, she aims to grow stronger still, aspiring to take on the planet’s top swordsmen and triumph over them. Her ultimate goal is to seize the Meito swords and exhibit them proudly, rather than letting them remain in the possession of lawbreakers.
Why This Is The Hardest Dream
Ambition To Rival Luffy’s Own
Previously mentioned, dreams in “One Piece” are tough to accomplish, but they vary in difficulty. Tashigi’s aspirations might be more challenging than Luffy’s goal of being the Pirate King, mainly due to the characters who possess the strongest weapons within the series. In contrast, Zoro’s dream of defeating Mihawk seems limited, whereas Tashigi’s dream involves overcoming every user of a Supreme or Great Grade Weapon to acquire their weaponry.
In essence, many skilled sword-wielders and combatants employ the Meito, yet for brevity’s sake, it’s essential to highlight that those who yield the Supreme Grade Weapons are formidable obstacles on Tashigi’s path to achieving her dream. It’s also important to note that among the 12 Supreme Grade weapons, the confirmed users – namely Roger, Whitebeard, Mihawk, Fujitora, and Nusjuro – are indisputably some of the most powerful characters within the world of One Piece.
In terms of acquiring these weapons most effortlessly, Tashigi might find it easiest with Roger’s Ace and Whitebeard’s Murakumogiri, as the users of these legendary artifacts have already passed away. The location of Ace remains unknown, but Murakumogiri resides atop Whitebeard’s tomb, guarded diligently by the Whitebeard Pirates. It’s highly improbable that Tashigi would take the weapon directly from its resting place.
To add more, Fujitora also wields a short sword known as Yakuza Kasen. Despite being on the same team, Tashigi’s abilities pale in comparison to Fujitora’s immense strength. In essence, it would be futile for her to even consider challenging him for this weapon. It’s highly unlikely that these two characters will engage in combat, but should their objectives diverge, there’s little Tashigi can do against the formidable might of a Navy Admiral like Fujitora.
I am going to collect all the Meito that have fallen into the hands of evil men of the world!
In the series, Yoru – Mihawk’s legendary blade – is exceptionally powerful, possibly stronger than other Supreme Grade Weapons. This is due to it being one of only two Black Blades in the story, a type of weapon that has been through so many fights that the application of Armament Haki has become a permanent part of it, giving the sword its distinctive black color which never fades. While Ryuma’s Shusui is also a Black Blade, it’s not a Supreme Grade. Therefore, Yoru surpasses it, and given Mihawk’s unrivaled skill as a swordsman, it seems nearly impossible for Tashigi to take this sword from him.
The final confirmed Supreme Grade Sword is the Sandai Kitetsu, which most likely belongs to Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro, one of the Gorosei. Though not much needs to be said here, it’s pretty much confirmed that all the remaining Supreme Grades belong to other characters on a similar level, making Tashigi’s dream of reclaiming all the Meito arguably the most impossible in the series.
