One Piece: Worst Captains In The Series

One Piece: Worst Captains In The Series

Highlights

  • Crews suffer when captains like Alvida, Kaido, Blackbeard, Don Krieg, Hody Jones, and Big Mom mistreat their members.
  • Alvida and Don Krieg abuse their crews, while Kaido values only strength and Blackbeard sacrifices his crew for power.
  • Hody Jones indoctrinates his crew with hate, while Big Mom is abusive towards her own children in the worst way.

As a seasoned fan of One Piece, I can say with certainty that the pirate captains who stand out as the worst are those who wield power recklessly and treat their crew like disposable pawns. Among these unsavory characters, three individuals rise to the top: Don Krieg, Hody Jones, and Big Mom.

Without a doubt, the captain’s role is crucial for the well-being of the team on board. Just like glue binds different parts of an object, the captain unites and strengthens the entire crew. If the captain is not functioning properly, it affects everyone negatively.

In the world of One Piece, numerous memorable pirates have risen to fame, commanding their crews. Regrettably, some of these captains view their crew members as interchangeable parts, easily replaced whenever needed. This attitude negatively impacts crew morale and hinders overall growth. Without a doubt, such individuals can be labeled as the most detestable captains.

Characters who do not value their crew have been included.

7 Alvida

Affiliation: Alvida Pirates

One Piece: Worst Captains In The Series
  • Devil Fruit: Sube Sube no Mi
  • Haki: No

Alvida serves as the primary adversary in the story of “One Piece”. At that point, Alvida was quite imposing with her size and strength. To inflate her own self-worth, she frequently inquired among her followers who they believed was the most beautiful woman on Earth.

1. In a heart-stopping fear, they’d blurt out “Alvida” just to stay alive. If they joked or got it wrong, Alvida would mercilessly pound them. She ruled her crew with terror, even Koby trembled at her presence. Fortunately, Luffy stood up to her and overthrew her quickly.

6 Kaido

Affiliation: Beasts Pirates

One Piece: Worst Captains In The Series
  • Devil Fruit: Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu
  • Haki: Yes

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: I, being the fearsome captain of the Beasts Pirates, was admired and revered by my crew to no end. Yet, I, Kaido, didn’t reciprocate these feelings. You see, I’m one of the Yonko, and I only recognize raw power. If a person couldn’t prove themselves worthy, it wouldn’t make a difference whether they lived or perished in my eyes.

Kaido’s beliefs were shaped during his tenure with the Rocks Pirates, and like their captain, he showed little concern for the welfare of his comrades. Yet, there seems to be a positive relationship between Kaido and King, going as far as freeing King from a World Government detention center.

5 Blackbeard

Affiliation: Blackbeard Pirates

  • Devil Fruit: Yami Yami no Mi, Gura Gura no Mi
  • Haki: Yes

Marshall D. Teach serves as captain of the pirate gang known as the Blackbeard Pirates. His pirating journey began with the assassination of Thatch and a subsequent escape from the Whitebeard Pirates. At first, his crew consisted of just five members, but this number grew substantially following his conquest of Impel Down. He strategically recruited some of the most malevolent criminals, aiming to bolster his pirate crew’s power and influence.

As a seasoned gamer, let me rephrase that in a first-person narrative:

4 Rocks D. Xebec

Affiliation: Rocks Pirates

One Piece: Worst Captains In The Series
  • Devil Fruit: Unknown
  • Haki: Yes

In a time long past, there resided a noteworthy figure named Rocks D. Xebec. Before the present era, he spent numerous years amassing his power. He established the Rocks Pirates and attracted the most formidable individuals to aid him in his ambition for global conquest. His crew was composed of exceptional characters such as Whitebeard, Shiki, Kaido, Big Mom, among others.

In simpler terms, the man viewed everyone around him merely as means to an end. He didn’t seem to care about their wellbeing, only ensuring he achieved his goals. Furthermore, there are signs that he had a history of physically abusing his shipmates. It is questionable why such a person ever rose to the position of pirate captain.

3 Don Krieg

Affiliation: Krieg Pirates

One Piece: Worst Captains In The Series
  • Devil Fruit: No
  • Haki: No

Hailing from the East Blue Saga, Don Krieg spearheaded the Krieg Pirates. He was marked by an inflated sense of self-worth and a misguided belief that he was the mightiest man on Earth. In reality, however, he was nothing but a fearful individual who relied on his armor and crew for protection.

Don Krieg often mistreated those under his command, resorting to physical violence if they dared to challenge him or express their opinions. He held little regard for the life of his right-hand man, Gin, and was eager to mete out punishment for attempting to prevent Krieg from seizing control over Baratie.

2 Hody Jones

Affiliation: New Fish-Man Pirates

One Piece: Worst Captains In The Series
  • Devil Fruit: No
  • Haki: Haki

In the world of “One Piece,” Hody Jones stands out as a character filled with malice. Originally a Fish-Man, he nurtured an intense hatred towards humans. To him, humans represented the greatest evil, and he was determined to eliminate them completely. He aimed to instill this same sentiment in other Fish-Men, so he brainwashed them into sharing his beliefs.

On Fish-Man Island, if a resident attempted to be friendly with a human, Hody Jones would mete out severe punishment. In fact, he harbored the same disdain towards his own crewmates. If they dared to voice their opinions, he wouldn’t think twice about resorting to violence. To sum it up, he was an unfit leader and an even worse individual.

1 Big Mom

Affiliation: Big Mom Pirates

One Piece: Worst Captains In The Series
  • Devil Fruit: Soru Soru mo Mi
  • Haki: Yes

Among all captains in One Piece, Big Mom stands out as one of the least effective. Similar to many pirates from the Rocks Pirates, she formed her own crew following the God Valley Incident. Unlike other crews, however, Big Mom’s team is exclusively composed of her offspring.

Initially, it appeared that a wise choice was made when she organized a team with her own children. However, it wasn’t until much later that it was revealed that this woman was actually abusive towards her offspring. In truth, Big Mom frequently mocked her children, harshly punished them for losing battles, and even went so far as to kill them if they interfered.
