This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Final Saga.
Eiichiro Oda’s *One Piece* is widely considered the best manga of all time. It has broken sales records and become one of the best-selling fictional series ever, rivaling even *Harry Potter*. Now that *One Piece* is entering its final arc, however, many are concerned about the future of *Weekly Shonen Jump*. The magazine heavily depends on *One Piece*, particularly with *Jujutsu Kaisen* and *My Hero Academia* already finished. Fans are starting to question whether the manga industry can thrive once *One Piece* concludes.
As a huge fan, it feels like One Piece isn’t just a manga, it *is* Shonen Jump these days! And honestly, with not a lot of really big new series launching right now, it genuinely feels like when One Piece finally ends, it’s going to mark the end of a whole era for anime and manga as we know it. It’s a little scary to think about, but also a testament to how incredible and impactful the series has been!
One Piece’s Ending Could Destroy Weekly Shonen Jump

- One Piece is the Pillar of the Magazine Right Now
- No Series Could Replace One Piece
For almost thirty years, *One Piece* has been a huge success. Surprisingly, not everyone believed in it when it was first proposed to Jump. Despite this, it exceeded all expectations and became the best-selling manga of all time, not just for Weekly Shonen Jump, but for every manga magazine. *One Piece* is now a cornerstone of Shonen Jump. A decade ago, it shared the responsibility of keeping the magazine popular with series like *Naruto* and *Bleach*, and more recently with *Jujutsu Kaisen* and *My Hero Academia*. However, those other series have finished their runs, while *One Piece* continues to thrive.
As a long-time follower of the series, I know that even *One Piece* will eventually finish, and it’s a bittersweet thought for fans like me. I expect the ending will be huge, and honestly, I worry it will leave a void in *Weekly Shonen Jump* that’s impossible to fill. There’s a real chance it won’t go smoothly.
Currently, Weekly Shonen Jump doesn’t have another major, long-lasting hit like it used to. While series like Dandadan and Sakamoto Days are doing well, they aren’t nearly as popular as One Piece and likely won’t run for as long. The magazine is struggling to find series that can maintain popularity for years—most manga now end after about five years. Recent successes like Jujutsu Kaisen, My Hero Academia, and Demon Slayer have been shorter-lived, and don’t offer the same long-term stability that One Piece provides.

The conclusion of *One Piece* will likely mark the end of a hugely successful period for *Weekly Shonen Jump*. Similar to what happened when *Dragon Ball* and *Slam Dunk* finished, the magazine will probably see a dip in popularity. This will also impact anime, as *One Piece* is such a long-running and popular series that its ending means there won’t be another anime quite like it for a while, which is disappointing for anime fans.
One Piece Is In Its Final Saga
The Ending Is Getting Closer, But It Will Take A Few Years

Even though *One Piece* has entered its final story arc, the series is expected to continue for another 6 to 10 years. It’s hard to say exactly when the manga will end, but it’s definitely moving towards its conclusion. The story is currently in the Egghead Island arc, which marks the beginning of the final saga. However, the author, Oda, has been taking more breaks lately, which is likely to make the series last even longer.
As a huge fan, I honestly think *One Piece* could easily run for another decade, or even longer! There’s just so much of the world still left to discover, and I’m excited to see where Oda takes us!
The newest chapter of One Piece, number 1163, will be released in two weeks, as is typical for the series. It will be available in Japan on Monday at 12 AM JST, but most fans around the world will be able to read it on October 26, 2025. You can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus.
