This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf arc.
Summary
- One Piece introduces its first overpowered female villain, Gunko, in the Elbaf arc.
- The lack of active powerful female characters in the One Piece series is addressed.
- Gunko’s abilities suggest she could potentially be Yonko tier, making her a major villain.
The storyline of “One Piece,” known as the Elbaf arc, has begun, and fans are eagerly anticipating the Straw Hat Pirates facing fresh hurdles. In this instance, their adversaries will be tougher than ever before, which is fitting for the Final Saga, given that the crew has gained worldwide recognition as a Yonko crew.
It’s great news for fans that Oda has addressed their queries and unveiled the formidable enemies known as the Holy Knights in the current arc of One Piece. Although they are relatively fresh faces, their power is legendary, even striking fear into the Revolutionary Army. By introducing the Holy Knights, Oda has also presented a powerful female character that appears to be supremely strong, an aspect that fans of this series will undoubtedly appreciate as we delve deeper into the Elbaf arc.
The Lack Of Active Powerful Female Characters In One Piece
- Many Mighty Female Characters Exist
- So Far, Few Have Gotten Their Chance To Shine In Arcs
One Piece, like many Shonen series, primarily concentrates on male characters, but its creator, Oda, gives more attention to his female characters than other authors typically do. The Straw Hat Pirates include active female members such as Nami and Robin. These characters play significant roles in the story’s progression, and Oda makes sure they have their own pivotal moments.
The strongest hag in the world, Big Mom! – Wano Pirates
Beyond the Straw Hat Pirates, Eiichiro Oda has created several remarkable female characters in One Piece, but when it comes to those with great power, only two truly shine brighter than the rest – Charlotte Linlin, also known as Big Mom, the Captain of the Big Mom Pirates and one of the Four Emperors of the Sea, and Boa Hancock, the Empress of Amazon Lily and the Captain of the Kuja Pirates. These characters are notable for their immense power in One Piece. Regrettably, their impact on the storyline hasn’t been as grand as fans had hoped. Big Mom was initially expected to be a significant antagonist, but despite demonstrating remarkable strength throughout Whole Cake Island, her role in Wano was minimal. In the end, the climactic battle involving Big Mom felt rather rushed, leaving many fans disappointed that she didn’t receive the attention and showdown she deserved.
In much the same vein, Boa Hancock, a character brilliantly crafted by Oda, has been noticeably absent from significant events for quite some time now. Given Oda’s penchant for intricate plot development, it is likely that her role will become crucial in the final stages of the One Piece storyline. With the Final Saga underway and fans eagerly anticipating more formidable female characters, it seems fitting that Oda introduces more powerful women to the narrative soon. To date, the Final Saga has yet to introduce a single powerful female character, except for the Elbaf arc which introduced two main villains, one of whom is a woman with an intriguing ability who has captured fans’ hearts. Although one of them holds greater significance due to his connections to Red Haired Shanks and Garling Figarland, the other female character is noteworthy for her captivating abilities.
Gunko Is A Very Overpowered Character And A Major Villain
Gunko Possesses Tremendous Strength
For the first time in the Elbaf arc of One Piece, fans were introduced to Gunko, who demonstrated an immense amount of power. As a Holy Knight, it was only natural for Gunko to possess extraordinary abilities, even causing powerful figures like Dragon to take notice. Upon arriving at Elbaf, spectators witnessed Gunko employing her powers, which initially appeared as bandages. However, as she ventured to the Underworld, it became evident that her ability had less to do with bandages and more about the manipulation of arrows.

In the heated battle between Gunko and Loki’s pet wolf, the potency of her arrow-producing ability became evident. As she demonstrated her power to compel Loki to join the Holy Knights, Oda showcased the Aro Aro no Mi’s capabilities to the readers in a spectacular manner. This Devil Fruit undoubtedly falls under the Paramedic Class, granting Gunko the unique ability to generate arrows from her own body. At first glance, it may seem like an ordinary Paramecia power; however, its hidden potential is truly astounding.
Gunko can harness this power to significantly amplify her offensive capabilities. Not only can she unleash a torrent of fire arrows upon her adversaries, reminiscent of a skilled archer, but she can also employ these arrows as ropes and bandages, utilizing pressure to crush enemies and severing their blood supply – all while maintaining an impressive array of additional uses.
Additionally, Gunko can use her arrows to wrap around her body, generating colossal limbs in the process. For example, when confronting Giants, she can craft extended arrows and create massive legs that deliver more powerful blows, much like Luffy’s Gear 3 transformation. With this ability, Gunko can expand her fists or legs at will.
In my excitement, let me share an extraordinary power I’ve come across – the Aro Aro no Mi! This unique Devil Fruit grants its user, in this case, Gunko, the astounding ability to manifest future action pathways as arrows for all to see. Essentially, these future attack trajectories are laid bare for everyone within range to observe. However, here’s the catch – according to Gunko herself, these attacks are seemingly unavoidable. The only way to halt an assault is for her to change her intentions.
Moreover, these arrow paths amplify the speed of her attacks, propelling them to extraordinary heights, which in turn inflicts massive damage upon her adversaries. This power makes Gunko a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield!
Stepping into Elbaf at last, I can feel the tranquility enveloping me. Yet, that peace is about to be disrupted by the arrival of a distinctive individual! Meanwhile, waves of unrest are brewing in other seas too. Brace yourself, for this upcoming year in One Piece promises to be an exhilarating rollercoaster ride you won’t want to miss! Get ready for a SUPERcharged 2025! – Eiichiro Oda
Gunko Could Potentially Be Yonko Tier
Shamrock suggests Gunko Can Beat Loki Without Chains
The most intriguing and thrilling aspect lies in Shamrock’s declaration within One Piece chapter 1137. As Loki found himself under the relentless assault by Gunko, he made it plain that his predicament was due to him being bound and encased in sea prism stone chains. Despite his faith in his own prowess, Loki was certain that things would unfold differently if he were freed. However, Shamrock appeared unfazed. In her opinion, the outcome of their battle with Gunko wouldn’t alter even if she were liberated, implying that she considers Gunko strong enough to inflict pain on her regardless, thereby establishing herself as a fighter of Emperor level. Readers are eagerly anticipating more revelations regarding her abilities, and they hope that unlike Big Mom, Oda will give due focus to Gunko and allow her to demonstrate the full extent of her powers, rather than toning them down.
