This article contains spoilers for the One Piece series.
The final story arc of One Piece has begun in the anime, starting with the Egghead arc, and it’s getting close to the end. Like the Wano arc before it, Egghead features a noticeable change in art style. While the anime sometimes struggles with pacing, fans have generally enjoyed Egghead, with most episodes being excellent, though a few have been just okay or not as strong.
Fans agree that the best episode of the Egghead arc has been officially revealed: One Piece Episode 1144, “The Most Terrifying Nightmare: The Five Elders Assemble.” It featured more animated frames than any other One Piece episode and lived up to all the excitement.
One Piece Episode 1144 Was One of the Best Episodes of All Time
 - The Highest Number of Animation Frames Ever in One Piece
 - 5 Times More Drawings Than The Average Episode

The One Piece anime wasn’t always known for great animation, but things dramatically improved during the Wano arc. Changes to the production team and schedule led to a noticeable jump in quality, and that trend has continued with the current Egghead arc. While it’s not flawless, the One Piece anime now consistently features above-average animation.
Whenever a major fight breaks out in One Piece, the animation quality often gets a significant boost. Episode 1144 was a prime example, leaving fans incredibly impressed. It’s been confirmed that this episode had more animated frames than any other One Piece episode – even more than the famous battles like Luffy versus Kaido or Zoro versus King. The level of detail was so high, it took as much work to create as five regular episodes combined, which is truly remarkable.
Does One Piece Episode 1144 Surpass One Piece 1015?
It All Comes Down To Fan Preference
Episode 1144 of One Piece, titled “The Most Terrifying Nightmare: The Five Elders Assemble,” was a standout episode, especially for its exciting action and shocking reveals. Many fans are now debating whether it’s even better than episode 1015, which is often considered the best One Piece episode ever.
Although One Piece episode 1144 looked more polished, that doesn’t automatically make it better than episode 1015. Episode 1015 was brilliantly directed by Megumi Ishitani, and its smooth pacing and creative choices made it a truly outstanding installment.
Ultimately, what makes an episode the ‘best’ is up to each fan, but many One Piece viewers consider episode 1015 to be the greatest. However, episode 1144 currently has a higher rating on sites like IMDb.
The latest episode of One Piece, episode 1148, will be released later this week. You can watch the entire series on Crunchyroll. The next episode is scheduled to air on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
