As a long-time fan of the Fire Emblem series, I’ve been following the developments and rumors surrounding the latest installments with great interest. It’s been an exciting ride, full of twists and turns that have kept me on the edge of my seat.

Fire Emblem Engage, launched a few years following the franchise’s 30-year milestone, received a varied response from critics and players. While its gameplay was refined to an exceptional level, its narrative didn’t garner much praise from the reviewing community. Despite the decrease in conversation surrounding the game, Fire Emblem Engage leaves us pondering one significant question.

Approximately two years have elapsed since the launch of “Fire Emblem Engage” in January the previous year. Surprisingly, this game was leaked online prior to its official reveal. These leaks were initially dismissed due to Alear’s distinctive design which seemed unconventional at the time. Nevertheless, it was later confirmed that these leaks were authentic. Though the game’s status as an obscure title should make it seem less likely, there are notable factors that actually lend this leak further credibility. For one, other recent titles indicate why Nintendo would prioritize a Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War remake.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia marked a significant path for subsequent games in the series and left a clear imprint. The game originally made for remake was Fire Emblem Gaiden, which is the second installment in the Fire Emblem series. Interestingly, both Fire Emblem Gaiden and Genealogy of the Holy War share a striking resemblance. Their most notable similarity is that neither game was previously released internationally.

Today, it’s still not possible to legally experience the original Fire Emblem titles in an authentic way. The series was introduced to global audiences with the seventh installment, Fire Emblem: Blazing Blade. Although a remake of Blazing Blade would be welcome, it is more accessible than earlier versions due to its greater international recognition. It seems that game developers are prioritizing remakes for titles with less international fame, such as certain Fire Emblem games.

Nintendo Could Pivot Fire Emblem Remake Plans

The authenticity of the Fire Emblem Engage leak is still questionable, with plans for a remake potentially being abandoned. Nevertheless, it’s important to note that other Fire Emblem games might be equally deserving of a remake. However, it seems more plausible that Nintendo has just shifted the launch date of the upcoming Fire Emblem title instead.

Due to the rising fame of the “Fire Emblem” series, a new installment in this franchise could be an ideal choice as the first game for the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. If reports are accurate, and there’s strong evidence suggesting they are, the development of the “Fire Emblem 4” remake may have started before the current Nintendo Switch was nearing its end. Although a “Fire Emblem” remake could have been an excellent addition to the Switch’s final phase, it’s more plausible that the plans were postponed to accommodate the upcoming Nintendo Switch successor.

It might be more preferable for the developers to create a new installment in the Fire Emblem series instead of another remake. Fans are eagerly waiting for the sequel to Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Engage, and a remake may not fully meet their expectations. However, speculation about a Fire Emblem remake remains strong despite the lack of confirmed information so far.
