The re-release of “Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny” has been officially scheduled for sale on May 23, 2025, across multiple platforms including PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. This announcement was made during the Capcom Spotlight stream on February 4. The revamped version of the 2002 “Onimusha” game offers an enhanced visual experience with updated graphics and several user-friendly improvements like refined controls.
The critically acclaimed PlayStation 2 game, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, is about to leave its exclusive platform status behind, thanks to Capcom’s ongoing revival of the classic series. It marks the first console installment in the series since 2018’s Onimusha: Warlords, a remastered version of the original game. Just this month, the developers unveiled the title, and now they have officially set a release date, fueling even more enthusiasm among eager fans.
During the latest PlayStation State of Play event, Capcom unveiled a fresh trailer for the remastered version of “Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny”. This new footage provided glimpses into the action-packed game and its release date on May 23rd. The video featured the protagonist, Jubei Yagyu, battling diverse enemies ranging from samurais to supernatural warriors. It also highlighted the game’s sword-fighting mechanics and fantasy-inspired combat scenes. Notably, several characters from “Onimusha 2” remaster, including Oyu, Ekei Ankokuji, Magoichi Saiga, Kotaro Fuma, and the primary antagonist Oda Nobunaga, were showcased in the three-minute video.
Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Pre-Order Bonus Revealed
On the very same day that the release date was revealed, pre-orders for the upcoming Onimusha game became available on various platforms. For those who pre-order, they will receive the Onimusha 2: Orchestra Album Selection Pack as a digital bonus. This pack contains the following tracks composed by Taro Iwashiro from Onimusha 2: “Truth Of Brave (Warring Mix),” “Truth Of Resolution (Oyu’s theme),” “Truth Of Edge (Magoichi’s theme),” “Truth Of Loyalty (Ekei’s Theme),” and “Truth Of Desire (Kotaro’s theme).
Beyond the remastered version of “Onimusha 2”, followers of Capcom’s action-adventure series have another significant release to look forward to in the coming years. After a gap of two decades, a new main installment, named “Onimusha: Way of the Sword”, is slated to follow up on the 2006 release “Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams”, with an anticipated launch in 2026. Meanwhile, Capcom is also working on various other major projects, including the sequel to “Okami” that was announced in December 2024. In the near future, Capcom plans to release “Monster Hunter Wilds” on February 28, 2025, for both PC and current-gen consoles.
