At today’s State of Play event, I was thrilled to catch my first glimpse of the main character in Capcom’s upcoming game, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, thanks to the freshly released trailer!
In the creation of their forthcoming game, Onimusha, Capcom draws inspiration from a historical figure in Japanese lore – the renowned swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword Protagonist Revealed In Gameplay Video
According to a press release from Capcom, Musashi is a spirited young samurai who, due to an extraordinary turn of events involving the supernatural, now possesses an Oni Gauntlet and engages in combat against legions of demonic Genma.
The main character bears a striking resemblance to the late Japanese film actor, Toshiro Mifune. This actor had previously played Musashi in iconic samurai movies.
In the story of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the action unfolds in Kyoto, where a wicked mist of Malice has descended, inviting Hell to intrude upon our world. This dark cloud has caused turmoil in feudal Japan’s capital city. Musashi, equipped with an extraordinary Oni Gauntlet, possesses powers that surpass human capabilities. With this artifact, he can vanquish hideous creatures from the underworld, including Byakue, a formidable enemy wielding an axe, who gains strength as it absorbs its own blood.
In nearly two decades, Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks the initial release in the series. Capcom intends to merge historical facts with mythological elements to create an engaging action game, deeply rooted in Japanese history.
Although the specific launch date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword remains undetermined, it’s been confirmed that the game will hit shelves in the year 2026, available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and personal computers.
Expect more gameplay details about the samurai game to be released in the coming months.,
