OpenRock X Open-Ear Sport earbuds review

OpenRock X Open-Ear Sport earbuds review

As a seasoned gamer and audiophile who’s spent countless hours immersed in virtual worlds, I can attest to the transformative power of quality audio gear. The OpenRock X earbuds from OneOdio have undeniably made their way into my rotation, and for good reason.

Listening to music or podcasts can significantly enhance a workout or workday. However, if you’re going to be listening for extended periods, especially during activity, it’s crucial to have earbuds that not only stay put but also feel comfortable. The OpenRock X Open-Ear Sport earbuds from OneOdio excel in this regard, delivering excellent sound quality and a handy companion app as an added bonus.

Initially, let’s talk about the design. These earbuds can be described as stylishly elegant. The streamlined look of the earbuds themselves is commendable, but the carry case takes it to another level. It has a sophisticated matte black finish with silver accents, and a small loop for attaching a keyring or chain. The exterior case design includes an accessible charging port, making it both practical and visually appealing. When you press on the bottom face, it opens with a satisfying click. The earbuds are held securely inside by magnets, easy to remove and store. All in all, the presentation is quite impressive. Kudos also to the packaging designers for creating a box that’s simply cool.

The earbuds are water resistant to an IPX5 rating, so a little light rain or sweat in the gym won’t do them any harm. Controls are simple and streamlined, with a single button on each speaker that controls things like volume and playback, while the companion app allows you to customise a longer press of each button. The app itself is intuitive and easy to use, and highly recommended if you’re likely to be using the OpenRock X with your phone for long periods.

Unlike bone-conducting earphones, the OpenRock X channel the sound through the air between the bud and your ear canal, and as such they’ve a looser, more comfortable fit – but the upshot is it doesn’t matter if you’re running, chewing, or singing along to your favourite song; they’re not moving with your jaw, so the sound remains smooth throughout.

Regarding their snugness and adaptability, while they’re adjustable, it could use a bit more flexibility. You can move them slightly up, down, left, or right to suit your ear shape, but finding the perfect angle might require some tweaking. The range of adjustment isn’t extensive in either direction, and perhaps they could benefit from a greater degree of freedom. Tightening the fit could potentially minimize background noise somewhat, but even with my increased familiarity with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), I’ve never found external sounds to be an issue.

As a devoted admirer, I must acknowledge one thing that might catch your eye – the price tag. At approximately £160, they’re not exactly budget-friendly. While they offer great sound quality and a sleek design, there are other alternatives in the market that deliver similar performance for about half the price. Despite this, the SoundPeats Run Free open earphones remain my top pick of late, offering a more affordable option for audiophiles like me.

Despite its price, the OpenRock X from OneOdio offers superior quality. It boasts 12 hours of battery life from the device itself, extending to a full 48 hours when the case is fully charged – quite convenient for a bustling lifestyle. The charging speed is also swift, making it effortless to keep the case fully charged. Overall, if you’re in search of open-ear sport earbuds, the OpenRock X is a stylish and well-crafted choice. However, comparable options at lower prices can be found with some price comparison shopping.
