As a long-time fan of the Orcs Must Die! series, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing that the latest installment, Deathtrap, is coming to PC and Xbox Series X|S in early 2025. It’s been a while since we last had a new addition to this beloved franchise, and Robot Entertainment has truly outdone themselves this time.
In early 2025, Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap from Robot Entertainment will be released on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox Series X|S. This is the newest addition to the Orcs Must Die! franchise. In it, players can choose to play alone or with a team of up to four members in thrilling third-person combat. As new War Mages, gamers will advance through rogue-lite development, boosting their distinct skills to slaughter, torch, and annihilate enormous waves of persistent orcs.
Patrick Hudson, co-founder and CEO of Robot Entertainment had this to say about the announcement:
We’re excited to reveal the newest addition to the Orcs Must Die! series. Our aim has consistently been to deliver enjoyment and originality. In creating Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap, we took on the task of advancing a thirteen-year-old franchise by carefully considering fan feedback and desires.
We’ve remained faithful to the original chaotic action and humorous feel, but have added a multiplayer mode for up to four players. Plus, we’ve introduced fresh and distinctive heroes with unique skills, more diverse levels, and new rogue-lite advancement options. The goal is to provide an even more thrilling orc-hunting adventure!
In Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap, the game provides adjustable challenges depending on the number of players. Players can select from six distinct War Mages, each with unique playstyles, personas, traps, and skills. Creating effective combinations among them, optimizing their tools, and customizing strategies are essential for effectively eliminating orcs.
Every new wave of adversaries is strengthened with unpredictable bonuses and penalties. Using the surroundings, taking into account weather conditions and the time of day, will be crucial in holding off the surging hoards. As the bonuses and penalties become more pronounced, players can decide to engage in battle or retreat to their castle base to enhance their hero, weapons, and defensive traps before confronting a tough Orc General in an intense boss fight.
