Moon Studios, the creators behind Ori, have shared some disappointing news about the console release of their action RPG, “No Rest for the Wicked.” Originally set for a console launch following its PC debut last year, it seems that Xbox players might not get to join in on the fun right away – at least at first.
Xbox and Moon Studios initially joined forces over a decade back, producing the critically-adored 2D platformer, “Ori and the Blind Forest” in 2015.
It appears that an Xbox release for the game No Rest for the Wicked might not be imminent, as Moon Studios CEO Thomas Mahler has hinted at a possible console launch limited to the PS5 and potentially the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This decision seems influenced by current market conditions, possibly suggesting slower adoption rates of Xbox Series X/S consoles in recent times.
No Rest for the Wicked Might Launch on PS5 and Switch 2 Before Xbox Series X/S
To clarify, Mahler’s comments don’t necessarily mean that the Xbox Series X/S version of “No Rest for the Wicked” is cancelled. Instead, he mentioned that Moon Studios needs to have more discussions with Microsoft before making any final decisions about the game’s release on Xbox platforms. This suggests that the situation remains fluid and may change depending on the outcome of those talks.
Since Moon Studios became independent in March 2025, they are financially responsible for the continued development of “No Rest for the Wicked.” As a result, they would be careful about choosing platforms that have the potential to generate profits for their action RPG.
In light of the present market trends, it appears we may initially launch our game on PlayStation 5 and possibly the rumored Switch 2 version. However, we need to hold discussions with Microsoft to determine the best approach regarding Xbox release.
Even though it’s not unprecedented, the possibility of Xbox being absent from the initial release of No Rest for the Wicked means that Series X/S gamers may have to wait a bit longer to play this multiplatform game. A notable instance of this happened with the 2024 megahit action RPG, Black Myth: Wukong, which initially launched exclusively on PS5 and PC due to technical difficulties in optimizing it for Xbox Series S. This sparked numerous speculative reports suggesting a clandestine PS5 exclusivity deal for Black Myth: Wukong. However, the developer, Game Science, recently cleared up the matter by announcing that Black Myth: Wukong will become available on Xbox Series X/S on August 23, 2025.
