Summary
- EA reportedly rejected a pitch for a fourth Dead Space game.
- The pitch was made by the franchise’s original creators.
- Past reports suggest plans for a Dead Space 2 remake were shelved, but EA has pushed back against those claims.
As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for the Dead Space franchise, I can’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment upon hearing the news that EA has reportedly rejected a fourth Dead Space game, pitched by the original creators themselves. It’s been over a decade since the series first graced our screens and left us terrified of necromorphs, and despite the recent remake of the first game and the crossover event with Battlefield 2042, it seems that fans may never get to explore the dark corridors of the USG Ishimura once more.
It is said that Glen Schofield, creator and director of the original “Dead Space” game, mentioned that Electronic Arts (EA) declined the proposal for a fourth installment in the series. Although the third and concluding part of the sci-fi horror trilogy was released in 2013, some fans had anticipated another addition following the launch of the 2023 remake. However, there seems to be uncertainty about whether a new “Dead Space” game will materialize, as EA apparently turned down Schofield’s idea for a fourth game.
Although the Dead Space series is now a decade old, it has experienced a resurgence in popularity recently. The 2023 remake of its initial installment was met with favorable reviews from both critics and players. In mid-2024, Battlefield 2042 hosted a Dead Space crossover event to unite fans of Electronic Arts’ two iconic franchises. This trend might indicate the possibility of a fourth mainline entry, but unfortunately for fans, it looks like they won’t be getting one.
During an interview with Dan Allen Gaming (YouTuber), Schofield disclosed that he, along with Christopher Stone and Bret Robbins, had proposed Dead Space 4 to Electronic Arts (EA) as late as 2024, with the trio including members who contributed to the original game. According to sources, discussions didn’t progress much, as EA indicated they weren’t keen on it at present. The team did not specify if EA hinted at potential future developments, but acknowledged understanding EA’s stance. Stone underscored the challenging state of the gaming industry, with EA’s recent layoff of 670 employees serving as a stark reminder.
Dead Space 4’s Rejection Follows Rumors of Another Dead Space Cancelation
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel the sting of disappointment hearing about Electronic Arts (EA) supposedly scrapping Dead Space 4. This latest update adds to a string of disappointing news for the franchise’s enthusiasts. Earlier in 2024, rumors swirled that EA had axed a remake of Dead Space 2, allegedly due to underwhelming sales of the initial remake. However, EA denies these claims, yet the original source of the information has stood firm on the cancellation, even if the reasoning behind it may have differed.
It appears that a remake of Dead Space 2 and a new installment in the series are not currently planned. Fans of the game continue to express their desire for a fourth sequel, believing it could steer the series back on track after the third entry’s disappointing direction. However, comments from Schofield suggest that EA might still consider another entry at some point, although this is yet to be confirmed definitively. Stone noted that publishers nowadays are less inclined to take risks, but the original developers would be open to working on a new installment if given the opportunity.
