The classic Final Fantasy 7 is coming to Steam, and it will replace the older version released in 2013.
Lately, all the buzz around Final Fantasy 7 has been about the remakes – Intergrade is out on Switch 2 and Xbox, and we know Rebirth and the final part are coming to those systems too. But today, we’re shifting focus away from the remakes and back to the original Final Fantasy 7 game.
Final Fantasy 7 Re-Releasing to Replace 2013 Version on Steam
Square Enix recently announced on Steam that a new version of Final Fantasy 7 is coming soon. The current version of the game will be renamed “FINAL FANTASY VII – 2013 Edition” and will be removed from sale when the new version launches.
As a big Final Fantasy VII fan, I was so happy to hear that if you already own the 2013 version, you don’t have to worry! You get to keep playing the original and you’ll get the new version completely free. That’s awesome! Just a heads-up though – your save files won’t transfer between the two games. So, if you’ve been playing the 2013 version, you’ll need to continue that progress with that version, and start fresh with the new one. It’s like having two slightly different versions to enjoy!
Square Enix still hasn’t announced when Final Fantasy 7 will be available on Steam, or why they’re re-releasing it. So far, this new version doesn’t appear to have any significant improvements.
There’s a rumor going around that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth might come to Xbox and the new Switch 2 this summer.
