Jack Reacher is often a solitary figure in the popular action series, implying that each new season introduces fresh characters to work alongside him. This means beloved characters like Roscoe Coughlin and Karla Dixon may not return. However, Frances Neagley remains a constant presence, providing continuity and endearing herself to fans with her own upcoming spin-off series post-Reacher season 3. Oscar Finlay, who was a significant character in Reacher’s first season, made a special guest appearance in the second season, but Malcolm Goodwin, who plays Detective Goodwin, has confirmed his participation in Reacher season 3 during an interview with Collider’s Aidan Kelley on the red carpet at the Saturn Awards.
As a devoted fan, let me share my excitement for Season 3! Though I may not be part of it, I can assure you that it’s my friend Nick Santoro who’s at the helm, the brilliant mind behind this captivating series. And let’s not forget Alan, a character I admire deeply. So buckle up, fellow fans, as we’re in for more pulse-pounding action, thrilling adventures, engaging narratives, and a visual spectacle of breathtaking action sequences!

It’s unfortunate for the show’s followers that Finlay won’t appear in the upcoming season, but there seems to be no hard feelings between him and Nick Santoro, the creator, as they remain friends and he praised Alan Ritchson, the leading actor. The third season of Reacher is adapted from Lee Child’s book “Persuader,” and it appeared that Finlay could make a thrilling return since some of the story unfolds in Boston, where Finlay lives and works as a detective. However, there’s speculation Goodwin might be hiding his participation to maintain suspense, but viewers should not hold on to high expectations.
Oscar Finlay Could Come Back In A Future Season Of Reacher And Goodwin Seems Keen On A Return
Following Oscar Finlay’s collaboration with Jack Reacher and David O’Donnell on their Boston assignment, he bid them farewell, yet made it clear that he would be reachable should they need him again. This implies a possible future reunion for the trio. In the same interview with Collider, Malcolm Goodwin expressed his readiness to resume the character in later installments.
In Season 2, I appeared as a guest star, which means my character is yet to meet its end in the Reacher universe. Many other characters don’t fare well in this world, but mine is still present. Let’s hope for more appearances in the future!
Goodwin is correct in pointing out that the world of Reacher can be harsh, with many violent events often surrounding the ex-110th special investigator. However, the creative minds behind Reacher have made a conscious decision to keep Finlay alive for a purpose, even though he may not fit into the current season’s narrative. This doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t see him again in the future, and Goodwin isn’t completely closing the door on that possibility. Stay tuned for updates.
