Just like otaku admire anime and games, those who create these entertainment forms often appreciate each other’s work as well. There have been situations where comic book artists (mangaka) postponed their own chapters due to events in another series they enjoy, while many creators have openly acknowledged being inspired by the works of others. At times, this mutual admiration even leads to exclusive treats for devoted fans.
It turns out that the situation is identical to a unique fan artwork shared on X (previously known as Twitter) right before Christmas. The art in question was actually shared by Mengo Yokoyari, a well-known figure in the anime and manga community; she is the creator of the critically acclaimed series Oshi no Ko. Interestingly, it appears that Yokoyari has a soft spot for being a fan herself, as she posted fanart featuring characters from none other than Chainsaw Man, another highly popular anime.

And She is Just as Excited as Us
On December 22nd, Mengo Yokoyari’s post was uploaded to her X page, showcasing artwork tailored for the arc that is set to appear in the upcoming “Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc,” which was initially announced at Jump Festa ’24 and subsequently provided with updates at Jump Festa ’25. This announcement has sparked excitement among fans worldwide, as it will introduce fresh material for those who have only seen the original “Chainsaw Man” anime and are not familiar with the manga.
Enthusiasm for the trailer wasn’t limited to typical anime fans alone; even Mengo Yokoyari, the creator of Oshi no Ko, showed great excitement about the announcement and appears to be a fan of the Chainsaw Man series. In fact, she created artwork featuring Denji, the main character, along with Reze, a supporting character and namesake from the upcoming movie. The illustration shows them seemingly at a café, with Reze holding a bouquet of flowers.
The post included a Japanese text which translates to “I am excited for the movie.” It isn’t just her who feels this way, as the post has now garnered close to 2 million views, along with nearly 60,000 likes and over 6,000 shares. Many comments under the post expressed their support for Yokoyama’s project, sharing their own excitement about the movie and complimenting Yokoyama’s work.
Chainsaw Man and Oshi no Ko
Two of the Biggest Names in Anime
In the past couple of years, Oshi no Ko and Chainsaw Man have become two highly recognized anime series. Notably, there are recent updates for each of them. For Chainsaw Man, an upcoming movie is scheduled for 2025, which has recently revealed new visuals and a trailer at Jump Festa ’25. On the other hand, the manga for Oshi no Ko concluded in December, and a spin-off novel is currently under development.
It’s heartening to witness artists in the anime and manga realms acknowledging and admiring each other’s creations, mimicking the enthusiasm of their fans. This act humanizes them, demonstrating that they too are individuals with feelings and preferences. Moreover, it creates shared interests among fans and creators, fostering a sense of camaraderie. The Otaku community thrives on such connections, making it a unique and vibrant environment.
