As a seasoned RuneScape player with over 10 years of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that certain Slayer monsters are best avoided if you want to maximize your XP gains and minimize your frustration levels.

Reaching level 99 in Slayer isn’t a quick dash; it’s more like running a marathon. Only those who’ve amassed an impressive 13,034,431 XP in the Slayer skill truly appreciate the value of the Block List and know how to effectively utilize it. And yes, I too have reached level 99 Slayer, but it took years to get there.

99 Slayer isn’t typically something one builds up through constant grinding; instead, it’s a skill that develops organically as you train your combat abilities. In essence, Slayer serves as an auxiliary talent rather than a primary one to hone.

For a smoother gameplay, players have the option to steer clear of monsters they find less appealing by spending 100 points at a Slayer Master.

For maximizing your XP gain, this guide offers suggestions on which creatures you might be better off avoiding during your journey, making the experience a little less arduous.

Always prioritize fun over efficiency. You will burn out faster if you’re not enjoying the tasks.

Ins and Outs of the Block List

Initially, players will find they have five spaces for blocking unnecessary tasks. Once you accumulate 300 quest points, an additional slot becomes accessible. Lastly, upon finishing the Lumbridge Elite Diary, another slot, the seventh, will be unlocked.

Grabbing yourself the Quest Cape should honestly be one of the priorities for anyone looking to sink serious time into OSRS, which means you should have six slots by this time. Diaries, on the other hand, can give some great benefits as well as a hefty chunk of XP.

In this tutorial, let’s consider there are seven available spots, and Duradel or Kuradel (depending on whether you’ve finished “While Guthix Sleeps”) will be our Slayer Master. The steps below aren’t ranked, so feel free to follow them in any order that suits you.

Hellhounds

Slayer Task weight: 10

Hellhounds are the first to cover one of the most important points that the majority of the creatures on this list share. To maximize XP, we want to avoid single-target monsters and focus on things we can either use a cannon on or we can Ice Burst/Ice Barrage.

Even though Hellhounds may act friendly and be away from keyboard (AFK), and the Slayer Boss can drop valuable items such as the Primordial Crystal, it’s important to note that these encounters might slow our progress in terms of Experience Points (XP).

Furthermore, Hellhounds seldom drop anything other than an infrequent hint, Ensouled Head, or exceptionally scarce Smoldering Stone. To clarify, this task usually results in a significant financial loss for you.

Cave Krakens

Slayer Task Weight: 9

Cave Krakens and Hellhounds, much like they, possess an exceptionally heavy Slayer Assignment Importance, implying that you’ll frequently encounter them when selecting a fresh assignment. The block list is ideally suited for these high-weight creatures that offer slow Experience Points.

Cave Krakens are invulnerable to both close-combat and ranged attacks, so they can only be defeated using a magical weapon designed for single targets, such as a Swamp Trident.

As a gamer, I’ve found that this game’s pace is quite sluggish, and over time, it won’t net you a substantial amount of Gold Pieces (GP) due to its relatively poor drop rate.

Black Dragons

Slayer Task Weight: 9

Black Dragons have a lot of Hitpoints and can be rather awkward to kill, requiring you to bring an Anti-Dragonfire shield or an Antifire Potion.

Additionally, for optimal performance, consider utilizing a Dragon Hunter Lance – an expensive weapon primarily designed for Slayer tasks.

In simpler terms, Duradel wants to slay just 10-20 dragons, contrary to our goal. Instead, we’re aiming for creatures that allow us to rack up a large number of kills within the same area, so as to collect maximum experience points (XP).

Although Dragon Bones are beneficial for gaining Prayer Experience, it’s worth noting that numerous other creatures offer greater quantities of common and costly items as loot.

As a gamer, I absolutely love taking on monsters such as Dust Devils and Nechryaels. What makes them even more exciting is that I can hit multiple targets at once using my Ice Spells. Plus, extending tasks with a Task Extension from a Slayer Master really adds to the challenge. And let’s not forget about the loot – it’s always enough to cover the cost of casting those spells!

Greater Demons & Black Demons

Slayer Task weight: 9 & 8, respectively

It’s advisable to prevent these creatures for comparable causes. They are individual-focused, heavy workloads with extremely disappointing treasure chests.

Moreover, Duradel often tasks you with eliminating approximately 130 to 200 of these, implying that you’ll spend quite a bit of time battling them, but the experience points earned won’t be substantial.

A point worth noting is that quite frequently, you might encounter difficulty in locating an opponent or face competition from someone attempting to usurp your position and disrupt you.

To Ironmen players, these creatures might be seen as beneficial, given that many other in-game monsters bear the Demon label. This makes it possible to utilize the Slayer Helmet and an Emberlight together.

K’ril Tsutsaroth, Tormented Demons, and Demonic Gorillas provide essential loot for players who don’t have a connection to the Grand Exchange. (or)

Spiritual Creatures

Slayer Task Weight: 7

As a devoted gamer, I must admit that these creatures, despite their relatively light weight, are undeniably tedious and infuriating to vanquish in the game. Nestled within the God Wars Dungeon, these Slayer mobs prove to be a nuisance when it comes to reaching them, and their loot distribution is downright abysmal.

At the GWD, anyone not wearing the appropriate God-aligned gear will find themselves consistently targeted and harassed by monsters they are attempting to evade.

To avoid any inconvenience, and unless you’re specifically searching for Dragon Boots, these items are destined to stay on your list indefinitely.

From my personal perspective, these were the initial Slayer creatures I managed to ward off, and I’ve kept them at bay ever since – a wise investment of 100 points indeed!

Steel Dragons

Slayer Task Weight: 7

Practically speaking, these dragons could be substituted with any of the metallic counterparts. It’s worth noting that they are particularly lethal and require a considerable amount of time to defeat.

Steel dragons, similar to Black Dragons, only have small kill requests, and yet sometimes take multiple trips if you get unlucky.

Apart from a fierce dragon breath assault, they also possess a particularly vicious hand-to-hand combat, making it necessary for you to invoke Protect from Melee and Piety for most of the fight.

Lately, after introducing Project Rebalance, they’ve grown vulnerable to Earth Spells, yet it doesn’t significantly expedite the job at hand.

In essence, these items offer poor rewards, inflict significant damage, and boast extremely tough defenses, resulting in minimal experience points earned over time.

Don’t bother unlocking Mithril Dragons from your Slayer Master. They are also very slow to kill.
