In The Outer Worlds 2, each of the four main regions features a unique collection quest. On Paradise, players will gather Science Magazines. In Golden Ridge, the task is to recover lost Murals. Praetor asks players to get Lightning Towers working again. And in The Cloister, you’ll need to find Sojourner’s Logs hidden in Excogitation Chapels.

Where to Start ‘Deviations Under Duress’ in Outer Worlds 2
Okay, so if you’re starting the “Deviations Under Duress” mission and want to find those Excogitation Logs on Cloister, you need to go to Laplace Garden. It’s an Order of the Ascendant base, and thankfully, it’s pretty easy to find – just head down the main path from where you land!
Okay, so once you’re inside, head to the left side and look for a stream. There’s a balding guy meditating nearby – that’s Oracle Laureate Lesley Beckett. If you talk to him, he’ll ask if you’ve stumbled across an Excogitation Log or Chapel while exploring Cloister. If you haven’t, this kicks off the ‘Deviations Under Duress’ mission. Pretty straightforward!
You can begin this quest by locating an Excogitation Chapel in Cloister and collecting the Sovereign Log inside. Eventually, you’ll need to return to Laureate Beckett to claim your reward, though you don’t have to speak with him to initially start the quest.
What Do You Get For Finding Every Log in Outer Worlds 2?
Once you’ve discovered all the Sovereign Logs and Excogitation Chapels in Outer Worlds 2, go back to Laureate Beckett. You’ll receive a small amount of XP, like you do for finishing quests, and a High Security Lockbox. You’ll need Advanced Decryption Keys and the Incognito to open it.
Completing the ‘Deviations Under Duress’ mission will also unlock the Cloister Excogitation Logs CEL-ebration achievement.

Outer Worlds 2 Cloister Log Location 1: East From Winter’s Grasp
- Location Notes: To get to the top of the cliff, look for a set of ropes leading up the cliffside just below this location, then carefully double-jump up the icy ledges nearby to get to the top.
Outer Worlds 2 Cloister Chapel Location 2: Northeast of The Archive
- Location Notes: Go northeast from The Archive and Newton, and through a Scrapper Camp, to find this Chapel. You must kill Buckshot Bill, a named Scrapper, to find the key to enter the Chapel and get this Sojourner’s Log.
Outer Worlds 2 Cloister Log Location 3: Near The Far Northern Bridge
- Location Notes: Head directly northwest from the previous Excogitation Chapel location and look for this Chapel on the top of a cliff just north of a bridge. There are several ways to get inside using a variety of skills – the easiest is to simply use Engineering or the Brawny trait to break open the front door.
Outer Worlds 2 Cloister Chapel Location 4: Underlands, via The Archive
- Location Notes: After you gain access to The Archive, you will eventually end up in an area beneath Cloister called The Underlands. Eventually, you will access a lift that will take you back to the surface – one of these lifts leads to the Chapel on top of the hill at the location marked on the map above.
