Back in 2024, I found myself immersed in “The Outlast Trials,” a chilling game set during the Cold War where players are unwitting participants in a horrific experiment. The Outlast Trials Project Relapse Update Confirmed for April 22
In late 2024, Red Barrels, the developers behind “Outlast”, experienced an unfortunate cyberattack. Thankfully, no player data was compromised during this incident. Since then, they’ve continued to captivate the horror community with their exceptional work on “Outlast”. The response from fans to Project Relapse has been no exception. One Twitter user applauded the team for their compelling story setup, describing it as some of the finest narrative content in a multiplayer game, while others expressed concern about the character Amelia upon viewing the trailer.

In terms of its gameplay mechanics, The Outlast Trials shares some resemblances with Dead by Daylight, Behaviour Interactive’s asymmetrical survival game, but it manages to maintain a unique identity within the genre by offering distinct trials. Collaboration is crucial in both games, yet, unlike its counterpart, The Outlast Trials utilizes AI to control the Killers, which may be a sensitive topic given current trends, however, this aspect seems to strengthen the game’s appeal within the Outlast series. The harrowing trials offer a first-person perspective, enhancing the realism of gameplay and preparing players for an intense upgrade in therapy themes that will reach terrifying heights with the next update.
