Over 100 Games Being Delisted From Playstation Store

Japanese gaming company Entergram has announced that over 100 PS4 and PS Vita games will be removed from the Japanese PlayStation Store later in the year. The PlayStation Store offers a vast selection of games, spanning from well-known AAA titles to numerous indie and smaller developer releases. Since its debut on the PlayStation 3 in 2006, the store has served as Sony’s primary platform for digital game sales, with each subsequent console and handheld system incorporating it. However, the store’s offerings can significantly differ depending on a player’s location.

Just as numerous other online marketplaces, regional variations of the PlayStation Store frequently offer games that aren’t available in other regions. The Japanese PlayStation Store, in particular, serves as a hotspot for region-exclusive games, with many developers opting not to distribute their games globally. Additionally, various regions feature distinct pricing structures for their games. Recently, gamers have expressed frustration over Sony increasing prices on the PlayStation Store in Brazil and Turkey. Now, a Japanese publisher is planning to take down more than 100 games from the platform.

Entergram Delisting Over 100 Games from PlayStation Store

According to ComicBook’s report, publisher Entergram has announced they will remove a total of 106 different video games from the PlayStation Store this year. The company has provided a list of these games, which are only playable on PS4 and PS Vita, set to be taken down on September 30th. They mentioned that these games will no longer be available for purchase, marking an end to their sales. Notably, all the listed Entergram games slated for removal can only be found in the Japanese version of the PlayStation Store, as they are not accessible elsewhere globally.

Although most PlayStation users worldwide may not be directly impacted by the mass removal, it’s important to note that this action will render a significant number of games unattainable for digital purchase. The topic of game preservation has been a recurring theme among enthusiasts in recent years, as the loss of less-popular games due to delistings can lead them to become forgotten relics of time. This issue has sparked such intense discussion that movements like the “Stop Killing Games” campaign have emerged, gathering over a million signatures in support.

The recent removal of games from Entergram on the PlayStation Store comes after some significant game launches on the Sony platform over the past few months. For instance, “Forza Horizon 5” marked the first release in this previously Xbox-exclusive series on a PlayStation console and enjoyed great success on the PS5. There’s also been a lot of buzz about another Xbox exclusive potentially coming to a PlayStation console soon, hinting at the possibility of a “Halo” game appearing on the PS5 in the near term. Although Entergram’s delisting doesn’t involve any big-name games, it will still represent a substantial loss for the PlayStation Store.
