The story of Overwatch 2 has continued through a new comic book, revealing what happened after the events of the game’s story missions. The comic focuses on Zenyatta and Ramattra, explaining why Ramattra kidnapped Zenyatta. It also shows Ramattra attempting to persuade Zenyatta to join his side before enacting the next part of his plan.
After years of anticipation, *Overwatch 2* launched its promised PvE story missions on August 10, 2023. However, the initial content felt unfinished, and shortly after, most of the team working on PvE was laid off as part of Microsoft’s restructuring. As a result, the story has been paused, and Blizzard hasn’t provided any new information about its future.
Ramattra and Zenyatta Meet After Overwatch 2 Story Missions
The story of what happened after Zenyatta was cornered by Sombra and Widowmaker in *Overwatch 2* has finally been revealed, over two years later. A new comic, “Reconciliation,” narrated by Ramattra’s voice actor, shows that Ramattra ordered Zenyatta’s capture. Ramattra attempts to justify his actions and convince Zenyatta to join Null Sector, hoping they can save omnics from humanity. However, Zenyatta can’t forgive his brother’s cruelty. Though they remain family, they’re now destined to fight as enemies.
The comic hints at the larger plan of Ramattra and Null Sector. Ramattra refers to the bodies of Omnics as mere “shells” made by humans, and considers Anubis a “tool.” He believes he’s discovered a way to both protect and liberate his people, and has now finished the initial phase of his plan, moving on to the next stage.

The recent story updates are promising, suggesting that *Overwatch 2* hasn’t forgotten the storylines introduced in the Invasion event. Aaron Keller, the game director, has stated the team intends to continue developing the game’s narrative, and these developments appear to be a demonstration of that commitment.
Sadly, this comic strongly suggests that the story missions from Overwatch 2‘s Invasion won’t be continued. If those missions had been more successful, this comic could have been a cinematic shown within the game as part of a new series of missions in Overwatch 2. Still, it’s good to see that Overwatch 2 is still finding ways to tell stories, even outside of gameplay.
