Overwatch 2 Just Teased Another New Hero For 2026

As a huge Overwatch 2 fan, I’m so hyped about the new comic! It strongly suggests Emre Sarioglu is finally joining the hero roster, but wow, they’ve really changed him. He looks totally demonic now, and it seems like he has some seriously explosive powers. Even more interesting, it hints he’s connected to one of the biggest secrets in Overwatch’s backstory. I’m betting we’ll see him become playable before too long – he looks like a total powerhouse!

After a long absence, fans recently saw Emre Sarioglu again in the debut of Freja, the first new hero for Overwatch 2 in 2025. The reveal showed Talon leader Maximilien hiring a bounty hunter to locate Emre, who was a close colleague and friend during their time on the Overwatch search and rescue team.

Emre Sarioglu’s New Design and Voice in Overwatch 2 Comic

Continuing the story from its recent cinematic trailer, Overwatch 2 has strongly hinted at the upcoming arrival of a new hero named Emre. A new digital comic called “Search & Destroy,” narrated by Freja’s voice actress Olivia Le Andersen, follows Freja as she searches for a missing agent. The comic reveals a surprising twist: Emre joined the villainous organization Talon after leaving Overwatch, but has since broken away from them.

Freja encountered Moira, Mauga, Widowmaker, and Reaper – members of the Talon organization – while investigating Emre’s whereabouts. This investigation revealed that Emre’s previous Talon missions all centered around facilities that monitor global security via satellite, with the exception of one job in Riyadh that Freja remembered from their time working with Overwatch.

As Freja arrived, she immediately found Emre attacking the facility, but he wasn’t as she remembered. Soldiers who had fallen described his new appearance as ‘demonic.’ He attacked Freja with a hardlight pistol never before seen in Overwatch 2, and his eyes were completely black. When reinforcements arrived, Emre quickly destroyed them with a huge explosion of energy. But after the fire cleared, his eyes returned to normal, and he seemed to recognize Freja.

So, I’ve noticed something really interesting about the comic! While the voice actor, Andersen, does all the other characters – even the ones you can actually play as, like Moira – Emre’s lines are done by a different, unknown guy. It makes me think Emre might actually be a brand new hero coming soon!

Who is Emre Sarioglu in Overwatch 2?

Emre first showed up briefly in a 2016 illustration about Ana’s past, and his name was mentioned in some background story details in 2018. However, it wasn’t until the 2023 book Overwatch: Declassified that people officially knew what he looked like and connected his face to his name. After that, Emre remained largely unknown until Freja’s reveal for Overwatch 2 last year, which brought him back into the spotlight.

His sudden rise to prominence is hugely significant. While his new, darker look and alliance with Talon are surprising, his complete change in personality is even more so. Interestingly, the red eye symbol with dots above and below, now on his armor, has appeared in Overwatch’s backstory before. Sombra has been investigating a secret organization using this symbol for years, and she recently found evidence suggesting they may have destroyed Overwatch’s original headquarters. It’s possible this character, Emre, and his mysterious ability – hinted at by the “kill switch” reference – are connected to this larger plot.

Based on the impressive design, abilities, and voice lines revealed, Emre is very likely to be one of the new heroes added to Overwatch 2 this year. Along with hints that Anran will also be joining the game, fans are starting to get a good idea of who the next playable characters might be.
