As a seasoned Overwatch 2 player who’s seen more than my fair share of meta shifts, I’m genuinely excited about the potential changes in store for Season 13. With the spooky “Spellbinder” theme and the promise of 6v6 gameplay, it feels like a fresh start!
The thirteenth season of Overwatch 2 commences on October 13th, adopting a Halloween-inspired, magical theme known as “Spellbinder.” Players can anticipate Blizzard’s attempts at introducing 6v6 gameplay in Overwatch 2 and the unveiling of a fresh Mythic Widowmaker skin. Alongside improvements to maps such as Dorado, Circuit Royale, and Havana, there are numerous updates to relish.
In the upcoming midseason patch for Overwatch 2 and the start of Season 13, it seems like there are significant changes happening beyond just cosmetic updates and map modifications. Anticipated balance adjustments could be a game-changer! Although popular meta choices have remained tough to crack over the past few months, some heroes with high carry potential might be overlooked by the community. In Season 13, we’re talking about characters that are currently considered A-tier or B-tier, but they could prove to be real game changers.
Overwatch 2 Heroes That Could Be Meta in Season 13
Junkrat May Be Undervalued By the Playerbase
In contrast to the extensive revamp of global HP in Overwatch 2 Season 9, recent health adjustments have stealthily enhanced damage-dealing heroes such as Sombra and Junkrat. Junkrat’s lethal one-shot combo is back to being deadly against fragile enemies. While it’s not advisable to engage him in close-quarters combat, his continuous damage output continues to be highly potent across different maps.
Beyond this, seasoned Junkrat players are adept at exploiting map designs. They do so by positioning traps tactically, firing projectiles off walls at angles, and employing Concussion Mines to enhance their movement speed. While his ultimate RIP-Tire may not always be the best choice due to its vulnerability to destruction, it proves useful in team fights for securing a pick on a support or keeping an objective out of reach.
A Return to Orisa Meta May Be On the Horizon
In the course of Overwatch 2, Orisa has been reworked multiple times, with her most recent powerful play seen in Season 8. The adjustments made to her armor, along with repairs to broken armor interactions for characters like Brigitte and Ramattra, have significantly affected several tank heroes. Nevertheless, Orisa’s Fortify ability remains extremely potent, lasting for four seconds with a twelve-second recharge time. Many of the previous nerfs applied to Fortify were later either partially or fully undone, making her an excellent pick for damage reduction, especially as the contentious D.Va meta draws to a close.
In the past, Orisa, with Fortify’s damage reduction, immunity to movement-related crowd control, and overhealth, has been referred to as a “raid boss”. Over time, her microbuffs and the ability to manage her cooldowns effectively have solidified her role in the game. Particularly when Dive and Brawl tanks find it challenging to contest her, Orisa’s presence in the meta remains strong. Moreover, her popularity in Overwatch 2‘s new esports program, OWCS, suggests her dominance as she is often a preferred choice in recent tournaments.
Overwatch 2’s Upcoming Power Support Picks
In the latest season of Overwatch 2, Lucio and Baptiste are still solid choices, but they’ve taken a backseat to heroes like Brigitte and Juno because of the focus on Dive team compositions that D.Va excels in. However, if predictions hold true and we see a shift towards Poke and anti-brawl strategies, Baptiste might climb back up to the S-tier. As a support hero who isn’t typically discarded easily, his Exo Boost, Immortality Field, and Regenerative Burst continue to be significant, enabling him to dish out substantial damage and healing while maintaining durability.
In a different vein, Lucio serves as a potential substitute for Juno, even though they don’t have many common features other than their speed enhancement ability. Juno’s Hyper Ring has fostered a swift-moving game environment, but it comes with restrictions due to its location and cooldown periods. On the flip side, Lucio experienced a decrease in health from 250 to 225 in August, but his primary fire damage was boosted from 18 to 22, making him exceptionally powerful when used skillfully. When teamed up with Orisa, they can exchange knockback abilities effectively in tight combat situations against the enemy team.
