About three years after its release, Blizzard Entertainment is making big changes to Overwatch 2. They’re updating the game’s look and feel with a new user interface and, even more simply, renaming it to just Overwatch.
The news came during the Overwatch 2026 Spotlight, where Game Director Aaron Keller explained that the team wants to keep delivering fantastic experiences for years to come. He announced that they believe Overwatch is more than just a sequel, and will now simply be known as Overwatch, dropping the ‘2’.
Along with the new look, Blizzard announced that a version of Overwatch is coming to the next Nintendo Switch, though they haven’t said exactly when it will be released.
To keep players engaged, Blizzard is launching Season 1, called Conquest, on February 10th. This is the first part of a larger, ongoing story called Reign of Talon. Players can look forward to new in-game events, animated shorts, character customizations, maps, and heroes as part of the season.
Overwatch’s Season of Conquest
Blizzard is marking the 10-year anniversary of Overwatch 1 with a big update: they’re releasing 10 new playable characters throughout the year! The first five will be available to everyone starting February 10th.
These new heroes include:
- Damage Hero and former Overwatch agent Emre
- Damage Hero and sister to Wuyang, Anran
- Support Hero and flying feline Jetpack Cat
- Support Hero and member of the Hashimoto Clan, Mizuki
- Tank Hero and VP of Vishkar Industries Domina
Players will get their first chance to play as the new hero, Anran, in a special trial starting February 5th and running until the season officially begins on February 10th.
A new version of Overwatch is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, but we don’t have a specific release date yet.
Not only will new heroes be introduced with unique skills and equipment, but all existing heroes will also get updated with new ‘Sub-Roles’. These Sub-Roles come with special passive abilities – for example, Damage-dealing heroes can now specialize as Recon, Flanker, Specialist, or Sharpshooter.

Each week, players can join a new event where they choose to support either Overwatch or Talon. By completing story-driven missions, players who side with the winning faction will earn special rewards.
While the upcoming season will feature challenges, it’s also starting with a fun collaboration! Players will be able to dress up their heroes with adorable cosmetics inspired by Hello Kitty.
