As a seasoned Overwatch gamer with countless hours spent mastering the art of teamwork and strategy, the upcoming 6v6 gameplay experiments in Season 14 have me buzzing with excitement! After years of playing the original 5v5 format, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the chance to try out different team compositions and adapt my playstyle accordingly.

Overwatch 2 has disclosed December 17 and January 21 as the initial dates for its upcoming Season 14 6v6 gameplay trials. Since these tests will last for several weeks, fans can expect to participate in 6v6 matches within Overwatch 2 over the next few months.

Earlier, it was announced that there would be two testing periods for Overwatch 2 during Season 14, but the specific release dates were not yet finalized. Now, with the content update launching in Overwatch 2 on December 10, players have been looking forward to these gameplay trials.

Now, the official dates for the testing phases of Overwatch 2 have been announced. The first test, a 6v6 experiment called Role Queue, will run from December 17 to January 7, 2025. During this phase, teams will consist of two players committed to their roles throughout the game. The second test, known as Min 1, Max 3, will take place from January 21 to February 4. In this test, each team must have at least one tank, damage, and support hero, but may have up to three players in any single role. Fans can quickly switch roles during gameplay in this mode, as long as their current role has another player to fill it.

Overwatch 2 6v6 Experiment Start and End Dates

  • 6v6 Role Queue
    • From December 17 until January 7, 2025
    • Two players in each role, which is selected prior to queuing.
  • 6v6 Min 1 – Max 3
    • From January 21 until February 4, 2025
    • Between one and three heroes in each role.
    • Players can swap roles mid-match as long as at least one other person is in their current role.

Currently, the 6vs6 game modes are only temporary. But, Overwatch 2 has expressed interest in observing the popularity of these experiments and might consider making them permanent or regular features in the FPS, along with the 5vs5. If fans hope to see 6vs6 continue long-term, they should play lots of matches to show their support for this change to Blizzard.

6v6 trials differ from Overwatch: Classic, which is set to return in Season 14. The second round of this event revives the controversial “Moth Meta” from 2017, where Mercy was dominant, but no specific date has been announced yet. With the season concluding on February 18, 2025, it appears that the two-week period following the 6v6 tests or after they’ve both ended is the prime candidate for the event to occur. Fingers crossed that it spans from January 7 to January 20, allowing fans to enjoy the 6v6 format for nearly a month straight.
