Blizzard has announced Vendetta, a new sword-fighting hero, is coming to Overwatch 2 in Season 20. As the 45th character in the game, she’ll be available on December 9th, with a chance to test her out starting November 26th.
Blizzard recently showcased Freja and Wuyang, two of the three new characters coming to Overwatch 2 this year, during a special event. They also hinted at the third hero with a brief cartoon appearance. Since then, they’ve released numerous clues about this 45th hero, including hidden details in game maps and a collectible mask featured in the Haunted Masquerade event during Overwatch 2 Season 19.
Overwatch 2 Hero 45 Vendetta Backstory Revealed
Finally, Overwatch 2 has revealed its 45th hero: Vendetta. This Italian gladiator, also known as La Lupa, fights in the Overwatch 2 Colosseo and has a reputation for destroying large mechs with her powerful, black flame-covered sword. What truly makes her a threat, however, is her background. Vendetta is the daughter of Antonio Giordani, a former key figure in the criminal underworld who worked as an arms dealer, smuggler, and businessman for the organization Talon.
If you were around for the original Overwatch Archives missions, you might remember the name Giordani. He was a big bad guy in the Retribution mission, specifically as part of the Blackwatch storyline. Basically, Gabriel Reyes (aka Reaper) led a team – with Cassidy, Moira, and Genji – and ended up shooting and killing Giordani during that mission.
Given that Reyes (Reaper) and Moira are with Talon, while Cassidy and Genji are part of Overwatch, Vendetta has a motive to target both groups. Recent comic book dialogue between Ramattra and Zenyatta hints at this as well. With Null Sector’s decline, Vendetta is now positioned to become a significant new enemy for almost all of the game’s heroes.
We don’t yet know everything Vendetta can do, but the reveal trailer showed her blocking bullets with her sword, jumping incredibly high, and even slicing a huge weapon in half with a flaming blade – hinting she might be a durable ‘tank’ type hero. Based on her mask from the Haunted Masquerade mode, she’ll probably deal a lot of damage up close, benefit from increased ability power, and move very quickly. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long to find out for sure, as players will be able to try her out during a special Hero Trial from November 26th to December 1st.
