As a lifelong fan of both Overwatch and World of Warcraft, I can hardly contain my excitement over this fantastic collaboration between the two games! The Sylvanas Widowmaker skin is an absolute masterpiece that perfectly captures the essence of one of WoW’s most iconic characters.

In an exciting development, Overwatch 2 unveiled a brand-new Widowmaker skin, which turns her into Sylvanas Windrunner, a highly recognizable character from World of Warcraft. This stylish Overwatch 2 cosmetic is slated for release during Season 12, and will be part of the game’s upcoming collaboration with World of Warcraft, in anticipation of the latter’s 30-year anniversary celebration.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve just dived into Season 12 of Overwatch 2, where a fresh game mode, character, and Battle Pass updates are now live! But the season trailer dropped a tantalizing hint – a potential crossover between Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft! The teaser even showed a glimpse of Frostmourne, the legendary sword wielded by Arthas, the Lich King. Can’t wait to see what unfolds!

Presently, Blizzard has unveiled the first collaborative skin for Overwatch 2, which will stem from a partnership with Warcraft. During the Gamescom Opening Night Live event, Blizzard president Johanna Faries disclosed Sylvanas Widowmaker, a fresh cosmetic that transforms Talon’s sniper into the former Queen of the Forsaken in World of Warcraft. At this point, the method of obtaining this skin remains undisclosed; however, it would not be surprising if fans have to purchase it with Overwatch Coins or through in-game store bundles due to its high-quality nature.

In terms of characters from the Warcraft universe, Sylvanas Windrunner is both renowned and divisive. Initially serving as the Ranger-General for the High Elves of Quel’thalas and an archer matched with fantasy greats like Legolas, Sylvanas fell to the Lich King in Warcraft 3 and was made his servant. However, she eventually managed to escape his grip and established the Forsaken, a realm of liberated undead, one of the original Horde races in WoW. Despite her more questionable actions of late, she continues to be one of the most widely admired characters within World of Warcraft today.

As a dedicated fan eagerly anticipating the upcoming collaboration between World of Warcraft and Overwatch 2, I’m hopeful that it will debut in September, given that Season 12, which ends on October 15 according to the game interface, is mostly scheduled for the month prior. Blizzard hasn’t set a specific date yet, but with the season finale approaching, we can expect some exciting updates in the coming weeks!

This Sylvanas skin is only the first of many cosmetics coming in this WoW x Overwatch 2 event. If the teaser is any indication, fans will likely see a Lich King skin for Reinhardt, Junker Queen, or Genji, as they are the only heroes who use a weapon similar to Frostmourne. Additionally, Overwatch 2 could possibly tie these skins into WoW: The War Within like Diablo 4 did with its own Xal’atath Necromancer garb.
