Overwatch 2 Reveals Patch Notes for July 24 Update

On July 24, Overwatch 2 received a balance adjustment for its stadium, as outlined in Blizzard’s patch notes. This update modifies the abilities of four characters: D.Va, Freja, Mei, and Juno. The changes made on July 24 are intended to complement a larger mid-season update rolled out on July 22.

The July 22 update for Overwatch 2 signified the midpoint of Season 17 and introduced several modifications to the game, including hero balancing, systems, and maps like New Junk City and Suravasa Flashpoint. Characters such as D.Va, Freja, Mei, Juno, Reinhardt, Winston, Bastion, Hanzo, Junkrat, Widowmaker, and Zenyatta received power-ups for their abilities. Additionally, Loot Box rewards are now granted to players who play with friends, with Stadium matches contributing double toward each milestone. Players should be mindful of the recent changes due to the July 24 hotfix that particularly focuses on Stadium games.

On July 24, Blizzard shared updates for the Overwatch 2 Stadium game mode through their patch notes for a balance adjustment. This update only affected four heroes: D.Va, Mei, Freja, and Juno. In this case, D.Va and Mei experienced nerfs while Freja and Juno received boosts. For instance, the amount of damage D.Va must sustain before automatically firing Micro Missiles with her Defense Matrix has risen from 100 to 150. Additionally, Mei’s Slowball will now slow enemies by 15% rather than 30%. On the other hand, Freja’s Bola Build has been enhanced to match her Weapon Power builds by improving the effectiveness of her Lille Faelde Power and extending the duration of her So Cooked Power. Lastly, the critical hit damage bonus for Juno’s Medimaster Power was buffed to a 1.5 multiplier.

In other words, the modifications introduced in the latest hotfix have no impact on those implemented during the July 22 patch. Interestingly, the recent hotfix does not include a solution for the current issue with the Overwatch 2 map Midtown, which was taken out of rotation in both Unranked and Competitive game modes due to cars becoming invisible on lower graphics settings. As of now, Blizzard has yet to announce a schedule for when this map will reappear.

As we reach the midpoint of Season 17, fans have approximately a month left until Season 18 debuts on August 26, introducing a fresh support character to Overwatch 2. The water-themed rebel named Wuyang is set to create quite a splash upon his introduction alongside the new season. Blizzard has hinted that the versatile healer/damage hybrid will require significant skill to master.

Stadium Updates

TANK

D.Va

As a devoted fan, I’ve been thrilled with the Micro Missile build’s impressive damage output, consistently outperforming expectations in both intense bursts and prolonged skirmishes. However, this update aims to balance things out a bit, reducing its effectiveness slightly to align it better with other available build options. Despite this adjustment, the essence of its gameplay and impact remains intact.

  • Countermeasures – Power
    • Increased damage required to mitigate to 150 (Up from 100).

DAMAGE

Freja

In this rephrased version, let me explain that Freja’s Bola Build isn’t performing as well as expected, particularly when contrasted with her stronger Weapon Power builds. To introduce more diversity in Freja’s build options, we’re boosting the power level here.

  • Lille Faelde – Power
    • Increased effectiveness to 40% reduced (Up from 50% reduced).
    • So Cooked – Power
      • Increased duration to 3s (Up from 2s).

Mei

Feedback from Developers: Slowball has been successful in hindering opponents, but the slowness applied was excessively harsh given its ease of application. To lessen its overwhelming impact, we’re decreasing the strength of the slow effect, while maintaining that precise shots and strategic use of Mei’s secondary fire will still be rewarded.

  • Slowball – Power
    • Decreased slow to 15% (Down from 30%).

SUPPORT

Juno

Comment from Developer: In crucial build scenarios, Medimaster wasn’t living up to the anticipated payoff. To encourage accuracy and emphasize its status as a high-risk, high-reward choice for experienced gamers, we’ve boosted its critical hit multiplier.

  • Medimaster – Power
    • Increased critical scalar to 1.5 (Up from 1.25).
