Overwatch 2 Season 14 Has a Surprise for Bastion Fans

Summary

  • Bastion’s A-36 Tactical Grenade in Overwatch 2 now has an actual cube model, a long-awaited upgrade.
  • The change was unannounced in the patch notes for Overwatch 2 Season 14, surprising players.
  • Despite fans’ mixed opinions on the cube design, all skins currently share the same model.

As a seasoned Overwatch 2 player with years of experience under my belt, I can say that the addition of a unique model for Bastion’s A-36 Tactical Grenade is long overdue. It’s like the developers decided to give Bastion a proper Christmas present, albeit a bit late!

The distinctive model for Bastion’s A-36 Tactical Grenade capability has been introduced in Overwatch 2 for the first time. Previously unmentioned in any patch updates, this modification now gives Bastion’s secondary fire a tangible visual representation, which was previously absent since the ability’s introduction in Overwatch 2.

In transitioning to Overwatch 2, several characters experienced adjustments to their toolkits; however, Bastion’s overhaul stands out as one of the most significant alterations in the game. The well-known robot bid farewell to Self-Repair and his Sentry and Tank roles, making way for the Assault and Artillery configurations. Additionally, he now employs the A-36 Tactical Grenade as an alternate fire option in Overwatch 2. Unlike many other game projectiles, the A-36 Tactical Grenade doesn’t have a distinctive model; instead, it appears as a textureless sphere enveloped by explosive visual effects.

It appears that Bastion’s Grenade has been given a physical model within Overwatch 2. As of Season 14, the A-36 Tactical Grenade is now depicted as a metallic cube with six illuminated, vibrant yellow sides. This change was not mentioned in the patch notes for Overwatch 2 Season 14, but it’s already active within the game.

New A-36 Tactical Grenade Model for Bastion in Overwatch 2

Regrettably, at present, all of Bastion’s A-33 Tactical Grenade model variations look identical, and this isn’t reflected in the character’s skin previews like it is for most other characters’ weapons, ammunition, and structures. It’s uncertain if this will be adjusted in future updates, much like how Overwatch 2 introduced distinct Energy Javelins for Orisa’s old Legendary skins during its mid-Season 13 content update.

The response among fans towards Bastion’s latest Tactical Grenade has been somewhat divided. Some found it peculiar that the projectile was shaped as a cube, given it’s fired from a circular barrel – although they conceded it was just as logical as his cannon transforming between a minigun and a rocket launcher. Despite the controversy, most fans were pleased to see the return of a textured object in place of the featureless ball that had been used since the launch of Overwatch 2 over two years ago.

In Season 14, Bastion fans have even more reasons to rejoice! Until December 20th, viewers who watch a total of four hours of Overwatch 2 on Twitch can secure the Legendary Fire Engine Bastion skin, as well as the Ganymede spray, absolutely free. Since the Fire Engine Bastion is a Legendary skin, it’s likely that one of its potential features could be a distinctive Tactical Grenade model. If this feature ever materializes in future updates, fans who snag this free skin now may get to experience it firsthand.
