Overwatch 2 Season 14 Update Patch Notes Revealed

Key Takeaways

  • Overwatch 2 Season 14 brings buffs to Hazard and other heroes. However, the update nerfs Doomfist and Mauga.
  • Season 14 makes changes to global projectile size and adds the Winter Wonderland event.
  • Notable changes include buffs to Symmetra’s Teleporter, Torbjörn’s turret, and Soldier: 76’s Biotic Field.

As a seasoned Overwatch veteran with countless hours under my belt, I must say that this latest patch has brought about some rather interesting changes to the roster. The adjustments to heroes like Baptiste, Brigitte, and Lúcio are particularly noteworthy.

As an enthusiastic fan, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve just gone through the comprehensive updates for Overwatch 2’s Season 14! It’s packed with enhancements for characters like Hazard and a host of others, while characters such as Mauga and Doomfist are seeing some adjustments. Additionally, there are worldwide modifications to the DPS passive and projectile dimensions. These changes for Season 14 are now active within Overwatch 2!

The 14th set of seasonal content in Overwatch 2 has started officiallly, introducing numerous updates to the game. One of the standout new features is Hazard, a formidable new tank character, who’s generating quite a buzz among players. Thanks to the latest update, players can start using Hazard right away upon logging in, without having to unlock the hero first.

Absolutely, an update for Overwatch 2 brings about numerous balance adjustments. In this latest update, Hazard’s entire kit in Overwatch 2 has been boosted, enhancing its damage output, durability, and agility. Furthermore, a variety of other heroes have also received enhancements; Ramattra, Winston, Sojourn, and Illari were provided with offensive boosts, while Orisa, Ashe, Soldier: 76, Baptiste, and Lucio saw improvements to their defensive or healing abilities. Additionally, Symmetra’s Teleporter and Torbjorn’s turret have been strengthened, and Venture received a slight adjustment that now makes Burrowing still decrease the cooldown of Drill Dash.

Unfortunately, not all heroes fared well in the latest adjustments during Overwatch 2’s mid-Season 13 update. For instance, Doomfist experienced an extended Seismic Slam cooldown and a reduced shockwave effect. Similarly, changes were made to Mauga where some of his armor was converted into health. Pharah’s Jet Dash cooldown also saw an increase, while Brigitte’s Inspire Ultimate duration decreased by one second.

These individual alterations are accompanied by some broader modifications that will influence every character in the game. In Overwatch 2, the damage role passive undergoes another change, now diminishing healing received by 25% for a duration of three seconds following these characters’ attacks. On the other hand, the size of all projectiles has been slightly decreased to make it more challenging to hit targets accurately.

I’m thrilled about this patch! Not only does it address a few issues with maps and characters, but it’s also the launchpad for the Winter Wonderland 2024 event. From now until January 7, I can dive into Mei’s Snowball Offensive and Freezethaw Elimination, completing challenges to snag the Winter Casual Hanzo skin. But that’s not all! The Avatar: The Last Airbender meets Overwatch 2 collaboration starts on December 17, which seems to coincide with the debut of our first 6v6 role queue experiments. To top it off, Ashe’s Hero Mastery courses are set for January 14. All in all, Season 14 promises a treasure trove of content for us players to savor!

Hero updates

Damage Role Passive

  • Debuff duration increased from 2 to 3 seconds.
  • Healing reduction increased from 20% to 25%.

Global Projectile Size Bonus

  • Hitscan radius large reduced from 0.08 to 0.07 meters.
  • Hitscan radius small reduced from 0.05 to 0.04 meters.
  • Projectile radius large reduced from 0.15 to 0.12 meters.

In this update, we’re enhancing the power of the passive ability for the ‘damage role’ characters to make prolonged damage more impactful. To achieve this, we’re reducing the speed at which health recovers during combat. Simultaneously, we’re making it slightly harder for hitscan and projectiles with large travel times to successfully land hits.

TANK

Doomfist

Developer Comment: The recent increase to Rocket Punch wall slam angle has added a lot of consistency and made Doomfist significantly more threatening. To help account for this we’re pulling out some of the survivability from Seismic Slam.

  • Seismic Slam
    • Shockwave range reduced from 18 to 15 meters.
    • Cooldown increased from 6 to 6.5 seconds.

Hazard

Feedback on Hazard’s trial has mainly been favorable, even though he slightly underperformed. To improve his performance, we are enhancing his primary fire’s damage output, making Bonespur more dependable for taking down enemies, and a reliable finisher. The protection offered by Spike Guard sometimes seemed inconsistent because it was used from a third-person viewpoint. To rectify this, we’ve expanded the forward blocking angle, giving Hazard more reliable protection. Furthermore, we’ve slightly decreased the damage of Spike Guard to maintain balance with the increased Bonespur damage and protection area. We are also enhancing Jagged Wall to make it more effective, while increasing the time needed to reactivate its knockback effect to minimize frequent knockbacks and frustration.

  • Bonespur
    • Damage per spike increased from 6.75 to 7.5.
    • Each volley’s center projectile no longer has a random launch spread and now always launches straight.
  • Spike Guard
    • The angle of protection provided by Spike Guard increased from 104 degrees to 180 degrees.
    • Damage per second reduced from 75 to 70.
  • Violent Leap
    • Post-slash recovery time for Primary Fire and Quick Melee increased from .3 seconds to .5 seconds.
  • Jagged Wall
    • Health increased from 350 to 400.
    • Knockback damage increased from 40 to 50.
    • Damage interval increased from 1.5 seconds per target to 1.75 seconds per target.
  • Downpour
    • Airborne momentum lost by casting Downpour reduced from 90% to 50%.
  • Vault
    • Minimum obstacle height to trigger Vault reduced from 1.75 meters to 1.25 meters, which should allow Hazard to scale short obstacles more consistently.

Mauga

Developer Note: The recent alterations made to Overrun in the previous update have significantly boosted the active gameplay of Mauga. To counterbalance the increased durability resulting from these Overrun adjustments, we’re transforming some of his armor back into regular health.

  • Base armor reduced from 200 to 150.
  • Base health increased from 375 to 425.

Orisa

Developer Comment: Although Orisa’s effectiveness dropped off further than expected, the removal of the Fortify heat reduction mechanic has had positive effects on gameplay by making her ammo resource more meaningful. We’re keeping that change while walking back some of the armor health loss. We also think her Terra Surge ultimate ability could be more effective so it now pulls enemies in from a further distance but the damage range hasn’t changed so it won’t be harder to get out of the area.

  • Armor increased from 300 to 325.
  • Base health reduced from 175 to 150.
  • Terra Surge
    • Pull radius increased from 8.5 to 10.5 meters

Ramattra

Developer Note: The Ravenous Vortex is enhanced to handle sudden spikes in movement speed better. However, it won’t significantly impact skills that propel characters for a specific period like Reinhardt’s Charge and D.Va’s Boosters.

  • Ravenous Vortex
    • Now briefly interrupts horizontal momentum when first affecting a target.
    • Slowing field now ignores barriers for line of sight.

Winston

Developer Note: Enhanced Max Damage for Winston’s Leap: Hitting a target precisely will result in increased damage. However, the damage decreases if the leap lands at a greater distance from the target.

  • Jump Pack
    • Damage increased from 50 to 60.

DAMAGE

Ashe

Note on Development: Previously, there were some discrepancies regarding the activation of Coach Gun when Coach Gun was immobilized by lockdown abilities. Now, in the updated version, Ashe will be capable of activating Coach Gun even when mobility is restricted (like Junkrat’s Steel Trap), causing enemies to be pushed back; however, Ashe herself will not move during this action.

  • Coach Gun
    • Can now be activated while affected by mobility locking abilities but won’t move Ashe.

Pharah

Game Design Note: Players often find Pharah challenging because she has great aerial agility and deals heavy, quick damage. To make her use a bit more strategic, we’re adjusting the frequency at which her horizontal movement cool-down becomes available. This means that using this ability will require a bit more thoughtful positioning.

  • Jet Dash
    • Cooldown increased from 8 to 9 seconds.

Sojourn

Developer Comment: Sojourn has received adjustments to increase the rate of her energy gain and shifted some power into her Disruptor Shot ability recently, though the secondary fire lacking in impact undermines her core gameplay fantasy as “the Railgun hero”. We’re adding some damage back to it and will keep a close eye on how powerful she ends up being.

  • Railgun
    • Secondary fire damage scaling increased from 1-100 damage to 20-120 damage.

Soldier: 76

Developer Note: It might be beneficial to slightly boost the Soldier’s efficiency, and given the modifications to the passive role of his damage, now could be the ideal moment to make his Biotic Field more accessible.

  • Biotic Field
    • Cooldown reduced from 18 to 15 seconds.

Symmetra

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been noticing that Symmetra has been performing exceptionally well in our gaming sessions. However, to foster even more engaging team play, we’re considering a tweak to her Teleporter ability. We’re thinking about making it harder to destroy, so let’s see how that enhances the collaborative aspect of our gameplay!

  • Teleporter
    • Base shield health increased from 200 to 250.

Torbjörn

Game Design Note: Our aim is to enhance the turret’s efficiency without boosting its damage output. To do this, we’ve improved its construction speed, allowing for easier repositioning and a swifter gameplay pace. Additionally, we’ve rectified an oversight that reduced its potency, ensuring Torbjörn’s Forge Hammer will instill fear in his adversaries once more.

  • Forge Hammer
    • Damage increased from 55 to 70.
  • Deploy Turret
    • Build time reduced from 3 to 2.5 seconds.
    • Base health increased from 225 to 250.

Venture

Developer Comment: This is mostly a quality-of-life change that makes Venture’s cooldown cycle more consistent, as they tend to activate Burrow while soaring through the air quite often.

  • Drill Dash
    • Cooldown rate is now faster anytime Burrow is active, rather than requiring the player to be underground.

SUPPORT

Baptiste

Note for the Developer: Altering the settings of Regenerative Burst enhances Baptiste’s ability to sustain himself, and at the same time, boosts his capacity to aid his team members more effectively.

  • Regenerative Burst
    • Cooldown decreased from 15 to 14 seconds.
    • Radius increased from 10 to 12 meters.

Brigitte

Developer Note: To prevent Brigitte from having Inspire active for too long, its duration has been shortened. However, the rate at which it heals per second stays the same, meaning the overall healing output remains consistent even if Inspire is frequently activated.

  • Inspire
    • Duration reduced from 5 to 4 seconds.

Illari

User Note: The challenge with using Illari’s Captive Sun lies in the enemy’s knack for dodging its influence. Expanding the area of effect (radius) should enhance the reliability and overall worth of the ultimate ability.

  • Captive Sun
    • Explosion radius increased from 8 to 10 meters.

Lúcio

Comment for Developers: The modification to Lúcio’s health capacity has affected his ability to withstand battles. This alteration boosts his resilience during combat by enhancing his self-healing attributes. Furthermore, Sound Barrier now descends quicker when used in mid-air, allowing for more responsive and secure usage from elevated positions.

  • Crossfade
    • Self-healing penalty decreased from 60% to 40%.
  • Sound Barrier
    • Now falls faster when used in mid-air.

Custom Game Updates

  • A new option to enable or disable passive health regeneration is now available in Settings > Heroes > General.

Bug Fixes

MAPS

  • Temple of Anubis
    • Fixed an issue where spectating on the Temple of Anubis map could cause extreme performance issues.
