Overwatch 2 Stadium: The Heroes We NEED Now!

In Season 16, the Stadium mode for Overwatch 2 has been unveiled, boasting a host of fresh features and playstyles that have fans buzzing. The longer match duration, best-of-7 format, and customizable Items and Powers are just some of the reasons why this mode is making waves. However, it’s important to note that upon launch, only 17 out of the total 43 heroes can be played in Stadium mode.

Significantly, the compact team size in Overwatch 2 could provide a smoother learning curve for beginners and enable seasoned players to adapt to the new mode without being overloaded with excessive information. In the upcoming seasons, Stadium’s roster may expand to include several new heroes, as suggested by Game Director Aaron Keller during a recent conversation with Game Rant. While it might take some time for characters from Overwatch’s conventional gameplay to transition into the MMO-style experience of Stadium, Blizzard is attentive to community suggestions and player feedback in this process.

Overwatch Heroes Who Should Be Ported to Stadium Sooner Rather Than Later

Tracer

In Stadium, it seems Cassidy is thriving, possibly because there are no damage heroes with diving abilities in the new game mode at the moment. On the other hand, given that Tracer was one of the initial characters from Overwatch’s first beta, she appears to be an ideal pick for a dive hero when the action starts. It’s not surprising that Tracer isn’t available right away since after the introduction of Perks in Season 15, her abilities have already been tweaked. As one of Overwatch’s more complex characters to balance, Team 4 needs to thoughtfully decide on what items and powers Tracer can use to ensure the mode’s harmony remains intact.

Winston

Throughout the entirety of Overwatch’s existence, Winston has consistently excelled. However, his prominence increased significantly when the game shifted from 6v6 to 5v5 in 2022. Like D.Va, he is a tank hero who can charge into enemy backlines while protecting his own team as necessary. It’s intriguing that D.Va, despite some players having stronger feelings about contentious D.Va metas, is accessible from the start of the Stadium, whereas Winston isn’t. Fingers crossed that the adorable gorilla makes it to Stadium soon.

Baptiste

In the current lineup at Stadium, six out of eleven support heroes are playable, which include Ana, Juno, Kiriko, Lucio, Mercy, and Moira. Given the strategic significance of team dynamics and hero selection in a 5v5 game mode, it appears that Baptiste could be the next desirable addition due to his versatile abilities. Although Baptiste hasn’t been a dominant force in the meta for some time, his unique traits suggest he could excel in Stadium’s Armory. Moreover, the damage potential he offers and the utility of his Immortality Field are aspects that should not be underestimated.

Doomfist

In the game Overwatch 2, Doomfist is well-known as one of the popular Dive tanks due to his high skill level and the chance for players to display their mechanical prowess. Some might have found it unexpected that he wasn’t part of Stadium at launch. For now, a small Junker Queen meta appears to be developing in Stadium, but when Doomfist eventually enters the mode, he could significantly change this dynamic. Despite the challenges he often faces against tanks like Orisa and Zarya, his potential for remarkable plays, synchronized maneuvers, and customized builds using Items and Powers is unmistakable.

Given that only 14 heroes were revealed during the Overwatch Spotlight Event in February, yet the game plans to release a total of 17 heroes in Season 16, it’s evident the development team has been working exceptionally fast. Furthermore, Freja is set to be introduced to Stadium during the midseason update of Season 16, which is quite swift considering she was only recently added to Overwatch’s roster.
