As a seasoned veteran of both Overwatch and World of Warcraft, I am beyond thrilled about the upcoming Season 12 collaboration between these two iconic franchises! The mere sight of Frostmourne, that legendary weapon wielded by the Lich King himself, is enough to send shivers down my spine.

In the upcoming Season 12, titled “New Frontiers,” Frostmourne will be joining the roster of characters in Overwatch 2. This collaboration between Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft is set to take place, but details about its extent and exact launch date remain undisclosed for now. However, Overwatch 2 enthusiasts can look forward to uncovering more information after Season 12 goes live on August 20.

As a dedicated Overwatch fan who’s been hooked since its initial release back in 2016, I can’t help but feel exhilarated by the latest news about Overwatch 2! The preview for New Frontiers, their 12th season, is just the kick-start I needed to get my adrenaline pumping again. With the update comes a ton of fresh content that’ll undoubtedly breathe new life into the first-person shooter genre.

In addition to hinting at a new Overwatch 2 crossover with another well-known Blizzard series, the Season 12 trailer also alluded to this. Towards the end of the brief clip, the camera sweeps over the Antarctic Peninsula map, revealing a figure’s shadow off-screen. Subsequently, Frostmourne, the iconic weapon belonging to the Lich King in World of Warcraft, is shown being embedded into the ground. This suggests that Frostmourne may be incorporated as part of an upcoming skin collaboration during this season.

Frostmourne is Coming to Overwatch 2 in Season 12

Currently, we can’t definitively predict all the details of the upcoming Warcraft collaboration. It may include one or several Legendary skins for purchase, or perhaps a new weapon skin for Frostmourne could be offered. However, the figure in the teaser resembles Reinhardt quite strongly, and he has already received numerous Legendary and Mythic Weapon Skins in Overwatch 2. Consequently, it’s challenging to make a concrete prediction. Nonetheless, since only Genji, Junker Queen, and Reinhardt wield melee weapons with a shape similar to Frostmourne, one of these heroes will probably be part of the crossover.

It’s not a new occurrence that items from World of Warcraft have been incorporated into Overwatch and Overwatch 2. Characters like Tyrande and Symmetra (Sin’dorei version), Genji (Illidan version), Doomfist (Blackhand), and Torbjorn (Magni) were previously obtainable as BlizzCon rewards, random drops, or through the Overwatch 2 in-game shop. The Blackhand Doomfist and Magni Torbjorn skins can still be purchased using Overwatch Credits. In my gaming world, it feels like World of Warcraft is taking over! Just recently, Diablo 4 dropped some cool cosmetics in its cash shop, inspired by beloved WoW figures such as Sylvanas Windrunner and Xal’atath. They even added the Celestial Steed mount to the mix! And get this – with the upcoming collaboration with Overwatch 2, I’ll have the chance to step into the shoes of more of my favorite WoW characters, beyond the borders of Azeroth itself!
