Blizzard recently revealed a new Stadium map and a special feature for top-ranked players coming to Overwatch 2 in Season 20. Even though Season 19 isn’t over yet, Season 20 is shaping up to be a big update with lots of new content.
Aaron Keller, the director of Overwatch 2, recently published a blog post discussing the upcoming Season 19 update on November 11th. He emphasized how much the team values player feedback, and explained how that feedback led to a change in the Competitive mode – specifically, a return to the best-of-seven format.
Confirmed Features for Overwatch 2 Season 20
- New feature for high-skill players on the leaderboard
- New Stadium map set in a lore specific location not used in other maps
- Hero 45
Towards the end of the blog post, Keller hinted at upcoming content for both the midseason update and Season 20. They announced a new feature specifically for experienced players, developed based on player feedback, though details are still scarce. Plus, a new map set in a location recently referenced in the game’s story will be added to the Stadium mode.
Although the exact location of the new map is still unknown, players are guessing it might be set in Argentina, China, or even on Mars, based on clues released recently. What we do know is that it won’t be Atlantic Arcology or Neo Tokyo, as those maps were already announced for standard game modes during the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event.
Keller also gave a sneak peek at the upcoming mid-Season 19 update for Overwatch 2. In addition to the new Narrative Viewer and the Mythic Cyber Fuel Junkrat skin, the game director confirmed that the update will include balance changes specifically for the 6v6 game mode. Since its return, the classic Overwatch 6v6 format has proven popular with about 20% of daily players, and this patch will address some of the balance issues that have emerged in that mode.
The biggest highlight of Season 20 will likely be the new hero, a gladiator known as the She-Wolf. Blizzard has been hinting at her arrival in Overwatch 2 for months, and we’ll find out more soon. Players will get a chance to try her out shortly after the mid-Season 19 update, with details on her story and abilities coming between now and her official release on December 9th with Season 20.
