Recently, Overwatch 2 rolled out an update to rectify a technical glitch that enabled players to incorporate various color texts and emojis in match chats. Despite the enjoyment many Overwatch 2 enthusiasts derived from this accidental flaw, it’s now been taken off the gaming platform.
During Season 17, players stumbled upon an intriguing in-game capability in Overwatch 2, enabling them to compose messages with various text colors, hero emojis, and special characters by using hex code commands in the chat. Remarkably, this feature was neither mentioned in any patch notes nor official announcements, causing both puzzlement and joy among the players.
It appears that the chat options you’re referring to were unintended and accidentally included in the game. A recent fix released on August 5 aimed to address this issue, resulting in the removal of these features. Consequently, players can no longer modify the color of their text or use icons within the in-game chat from now on.
Fans find themselves dismayed by this modification, considering it an entertaining and engaging element to savor during games. Many mourn its departure, while others ponder its origin and rationale. A few are optimistic that it might be incorporated as an official feature in Overwatch 2 down the line, assuming it was merely premature at this stage.
In addition to fixing the chat text color problem, this minor update also addressed some specific game mechanics in Overwatch 2. For instance, Orisa’s Energy Javelin is now correctly influenced by item and power cooldown reductions. Furthermore, Kiriko’s shadow clone from the Clone Conjuration ability will now have its health boosted as intended by her hero abilities. This update doesn’t involve any hero balance changes, but it does clear out all Replay Codes and Highlights from the previous patch.

The Overwatch 2 x Nerf collaboration is now live, and it’s packed with awesome goodies like a Legendary skin for Cassidy, six Nerf-themed weapon skins, and the thrilling new game mode, Nerf or Nothin’.
