Overwatch 2 Wuyang Reveal Might Have Teased Another New Hero

Introducing Wuyang as the latest hero in Overwatch 2 Season 18, Blizzard may have hinted at another character joining the roster: his sister Anran. Although Wuyang was recently unveiled, it seems that Anran possesses a distinct set of abilities and weapons that could make her an excellent addition to the Overwatch 2 hero lineup in the future.

During an Overwatch 2 showcase event earlier this year, Blizzard unveiled Wuyang, who had been referred to as Aqua up until then. Just before his testing phase on August 14, Blizzard divulged Wuyang’s background and the collection of abilities he would have in Overwatch 2, giving players a sense of how they could expect this new character to perform and behave.

Wuyang’s Fire-Bending Sister Anran in Overwatch 2

In the build-up to Season 18 of Overwatch 2, Blizzard introduced more characters than just Wuyang, as hinted in the “Elemental Kin” trailer. The short animated film presents Wuyang getting an invitation to join Overwatch, which leads to a sparring match with his fire-wielding elder sister Anran. Voice by popular Overwatch 2 content creator Fareeha, Anran’s fiery nature and twin fans contrast with her brother’s water-bending abilities. With her distinctive fighting style and weapon, as well as the possibility of joining Overwatch alongside Wuyang, it has sparked speculation among players that Blizzard may eventually incorporate Anran into the game.

Anran had already made an appearance in more than one location. She was significantly featured in the prequel comic, “Against the Tide,” where she played a crucial role in founding Wuxing University, a university separated into five distinct colleges with specialized curriculums based on the Five Phases: Fire, Water, Metal, Wood, and Earth. Given her background in martial arts and strategy from the Fire College, Anran might be an ideal candidate for Overwatch 2.

It’s worth mentioning that it hasn’t been confirmed yet if Anran will appear in Overwatch 2. Previously, developers have hinted at creating a fire hero, but it isn’t certain that this was always about Anran. As of now, Anran is part of the roster waiting to potentially join D.va’s MEKA Squad, Kiriko’s Yokai, Hazard’s Phreaks, and Emre Sarioglu in Overwatch 2.

It’s highly unlikely Anran will visit us this year, since Wuyang is scheduled to arrive on August 26th. Moreover, hints from Overwatch 2 suggest that Hero 45 could be a melee hero called “The Wolf of Retribution.” Fans might get more details about this enigmatic character before Season 20, which seems to be launching towards the end of December.
