Overwatch 2’s New Bundles Are a Great Opportunity to Complete Collections

Overwatch 2's New Bundles Are a Great Opportunity to Complete Collections

As a dedicated Overwatch fan since its launch in 2016, I’ve seen it all – from the thrilling team-based gameplay to the diverse cast of characters that have become my gaming family. The Overwatch League has been an integral part of this journey, and the skins associated with it hold a special place in my heart.

Ever since its debut in 2016, Overwatch has stood out as a key player in the hero shooter category, blending thrilling team-oriented gameplay with an eclectic roster of characters. What makes it stand out from other shooters is its unique blend of rapid-fire action, carefully crafted team configurations, and a strong focus on each character’s special abilities. Although Overwatch 2 has encountered some challenges, the franchise continues to exert a significant impact on the genre.

Despite the Overwatch League wrapping up, its character variants remain in high demand. A new esports program called OWCS has been launched, but designers haven’t unveiled any team-based skins as of yet. This might be due to the fresh format, but fans can still finish their Overwatch League collection by acquiring available and upcoming bundles from the Shop.

Purchasing Overwatch League Skins Will Soon Be a Rare Opportunity

The History of Overwatch League Skins

2018 saw Overwatch making a significant impact in the world of esports with the launch of the Overwatch League (OWL), a groundbreaking development that introduced innovations like city-themed teams, premium quality production, and an emphasis on diversity. Additionally, it introduced Overwatch League-exclusive skins, which were primarily obtainable using Overwatch League Tokens.

Despite debates surrounding the reasons behind discontinuing player-specific skins like the contentious Zarya Alien skin that was meant to honor Jay “Sinatraa” Won following the 2019 Overwatch League season, team skins have remained prevalent. For instance, the Hangzhou Spark’s Home cosmetics and bundles such as the Atlantic and Pacific All-Stars have garnered acclaim for their unique designs. However, since the closure of the Overwatch League, chances to acquire these hard-to-get skins have been scarce, as they are not frequently available in the Shop’s offerings.

Overwatch 2 Is Offering Players a Chance to Complete Their OWL Collections

Great news for long-time Overwatch fans! Blizzard is addressing concerns about completing their Overwatch League collections by organizing a sale on team inventory, offering skins and OWL Tokens. This sale will run from September 10, 2024, to October 15, 2024, and during this period, new and rare cosmetics will be up for grabs. Notably, this event represents the largest release of items in Overwatch 2 so far.

From September 10 through October 15, 2024, new and Legendary cosmetics will be available.

Significantly, the new skins won’t only be for league teams; they will also unveil Overwatch Contenders Home and Away skins, as well as other in-game items such as Weapon Charms. At present, the schedule includes the following, although it may not be exhaustive:

  • September 10 – September 24: All-Stars Unvault Bundle featuring All-Star Mercy, All-Star Reinhardt, All-Star Lucio, and All-Star D.Va.
  • October 1 – October 8: Overwatch League Legends Mega Bundle with All-Star Tracer, All-Star Genji, Zen-Nakji Zenyatta, and Good and Evil Echo.
  • October 8 – October 15: Overwatch League 2022 Tournament Bundle including Luchador Reaper, Royal Knight Mercy, Happi Genji, and Clockwork Zenyatta.

Players are encouraged to check the Overwatch League In-Game Shop while it’s on sale for a complete collection of accessible skins.

For players who have been collecting rare OWL skins over the years, this sale provides the perfect opportunity to complete their collections. Additionally, some fans are hopeful that popular skins like 2020’s Goat Brigitte and the 2021 Legends Bundle 2 Haroeris Ana and Pirate Bastion will be included later this year. This optimism stems from Blizzard’s statement on its official website: “After the conclusion of the OWL Team Inventory Sale, [it will] unvault additional non-Team branded Legendary Overwatch League skins that will be exclusive to the Overwatch 2 Main Featured Shop.”

Regrettably, the current sale signifies the discontinuation of Overwatch League Tokens in the game, slated for retirement on December 10 of this year. Although it’s anticipated that these tokens will be transformed into a new in-game currency, Blizzard Entertainment (Team 4) hasn’t yet revealed any specifics. Consequently, this sale of Overwatch League team inventory represents the final opportunity for players to obtain most Overwatch League skins and cosmetics featuring team branding, along with other Overwatch League and Contenders-branded items.
