Overwatch 2’s New Support Hero Couldn’t Have Come at a Worse Time for Concord

Overwatch 2's New Support Hero Couldn't Have Come at a Worse Time for Concord

Highlights

  • Overwatch 2 lets players test new hero Juno while the Concord beta is live.
  • Concord struggles to gain traction with limited player numbers.
  • Overwatch 2 Season 12 starts just three days before Concord’s release date.

As a long-time gamer and follower of the hero shooter genre, I’ve been keeping a close eye on the latest developments in the world of competitive online team games. Recently, I’ve been particularly intrigued by two new entries in this space: Overwatch 2’s upcoming Support hero Juno and the open beta for PlayStation’s exclusive title, Concord, from Firewalk Studios.

As a dedicated gamer with a soft spot for hero shooters, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment as I watch Blizzard grant early access to “Overwatch 2” players to test the upcoming Support hero, Juno. This comes just as Firewalk Studios is gearing up for the second beta testing phase of their PlayStation console exclusive game, “Concord.”

I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the Concord open beta since it began on July 18 and lasts until July 21. Despite some negative feedback towards the game following its reveal, in my opinion, all the criticism is unwarranted. Sadly, it seems that a large number of gamers have no intention of trying out Concord. The number of players on PlayStation’s open beta is unknown, but there are currently 1,200 people playing on Steam, with a peak of 2,388. This isn’t an encouraging sign for the game’s future success, and if Steam users aren’t showing interest in the free version, it’s unlikely they’ll be willing to spend $40 on the final release.

As a long-time fan of both hero shooters and PlayStation games, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment whenever I consider the current state of Concord in comparison to Overwatch 2. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always had a soft spot for underdogs, and Concord has shown great potential with its unique features and engaging gameplay. However, there are certain factors that I believe are holding it back from reaching its full potential.

Juno’s Debut in Overwatch 2 Coincides With Concord’s Beta and Release Date

  • Overwatch 2 Juno Test Dates: July 19 – July 21
  • Concord Open Beta Dates: July 18 – July 21
  • Overwatch 2 Juno Release Date: August 20
  • Concord Release Date: August 23

Overwatch 2 can be played on multiple platforms including PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. In contrast, Concord can only be accessed on PC and PS5. For a live-service hero-shooter game like this, having a wider range of availability is generally more desirable.

As a long-time fan of Overwatch, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment as I face the unfortunate reality that Concord’s release is just a few days away from the start of Overwatch 2 Season 12. I’ve eagerly anticipated the arrival of both games, but now it seems like they’re on a collision course.

It’s disheartening that despite Concord being a well-crafted, entertaining hero shooter game, it hasn’t managed to attract players. The arrival of Marvel Rivals, a free-to-play hero shooter with the popular Marvel IP, makes Concord’s future seem uncertain. Let’s hope that more people try out Concord during its beta phase this weekend, even with Overwatch 2’s new Support hero launch.
