Overwatch 2’s Season 19, called “Haunted Masquerade,” arrives on October 14th. The new season features a Halloween-themed game mode where heroes wear masks inspired by other characters, granting them special abilities based on the costume. Players can also look forward to a variety of new character skins, including a brand new Mythic skin for Lifeweaver available at launch, and another for Junkrat coming later in the season.
The new Mythic skins in *Overwatch 2* have received a mixed reaction. While the Lifeweaver skin is impressive, and the upcoming Junkrat skin looks promising, many players were hoping Lucio would be the next hero to receive one. Blizzard had teased Lucio before revealing the Season 19 skins, leading fans to believe he was next in line. Unfortunately, Lucio fans are disappointed, and it could be a long wait before he gets another Mythic skin.
Overwatch 2 Should Have Given Lucio a Mythic Skin in Season 19

The Struggle of One Of Overwatch 2’s Most Neglected Heroes
Blizzard kicked off Season 18 of Overwatch 2‘s Competitive mode on October 7th with a funny Twitter video. The video featured a spontaneous song about the hero Lucio, moving the payload, and climbing the competitive ranks. They even tagged well-known Lucio player and content creator FroggerOW. Because Season 19 was coming out just a week later, many fans hoped this meant Lucio would be getting the next special Mythic skin.
It didn’t happen as many hoped. The next day, Blizzard announced the Divine Druid Lifeweaver skin as the featured Mythic skin for *Overwatch 2* Season 19, disappointing Lucio fans. Even though FroggerOW, a prominent Lucio player, was gracious about it – acknowledging the skin’s quality – he expressed hope for a Lucio Mythic skin in a future season. Ultimately, fans were frustrated that Lucio was passed over once again.
Lucio hasn’t received as few skins as some other Overwatch 2 heroes, like Baptiste or Zarya, but he’s still not a priority for new looks. Since the game launched, he’s gotten 18 Epic or Legendary skins from the Battle Pass, Shop, or events. That’s a lot less than Kiriko, who has 31 – including her special Mythic skin and new ones planned for future seasons. Kiriko has received at least one skin every season except one, while Lucio has missed several seasons entirely. Adding to the difference, Kiriko has six skins from special collaboration events, something Lucio hasn’t been a part of. Plus, many of Lucio’s skins are basic Epic quality or simply recolors of existing ones, while Kiriko’s are mostly unique and highly detailed Legendary skins.

Lucio was among the original 21 characters available when *Overwatch 1* first launched. Because of this, he has a larger collection of skins – including limited-time and competitive esports rewards – than Kiriko. Lucio currently has 133 skins, while Kiriko has 82.

Lucio players hoping for a new Mythic skin might be disappointed for a while. *Overwatch 2* typically releases Mythic skins for damage, support, and tank heroes in a repeating three-season cycle, though there was one exception. Since Season 19 just featured a support Mythic skin, and the game follows this cycle, it’s unlikely another support Mythic will be available until Season 21 or 22 next year, meaning Lucio fans may have to wait several months for another chance to get one.
Mythic Junkrat May Give Lucio a Bit of Hope in Overwatch 2

Lucio players might be excited to hear some good news coming from an unlikely source: Junkrat. For the first time, *Overwatch 2* will release two special Mythic hero skins in a single season. The Cyber Fuel skin for Junkrat is expected to arrive in about a month with the mid-Season 19 update. It’s unclear if this is a one-time event or if Blizzard will continue to surprise players with extra Mythic skins, but one thing is certain: players will likely need a lot of Mythic Prisms this season.
Okay, so as a Lucio main, I’m trying to stay positive about this. Even though the new Junkrat Mythic skin just dropped, it actually *might* be good news for us Lucio fans! Basically, it’s speeding up how often these Mythic skins come out, which means Lucio’s turn could come around sooner. There are still a bunch of heroes ahead of me in line to get one, so it could still be a while – months, maybe even years – but Blizzard has been hinting at a lot of cool stuff lately. You just never know what they’re planning until the next update or event, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a Mythic Lucio skin soon!
