Even Anran’s voice actress, Fareeha Yue Andersen, released a video requesting adjustments to better reflect her older, more mature look from the Overwatch Elemental Kin comic.
Blizzard heard the feedback about Anran and is making changes to her design in Overwatch. With Season 2 coming soon, they’re giving her a visual update. According to creative director Aaron Keller, the goal is to better reflect her strong and confident personality. They’ve moved away from a younger appearance, giving her more focused eyes, a wider smile, raised eyebrows, and subtle shading with freckles. Her posture has also been adjusted to make her look more self-assured.
People seem to have somewhat mixed feelings about the changes – some really like them, while others wished they’d gone further. However, Fareeha responded positively, thanking the team for listening and the community for their feedback. She also said the updated character now feels more like the “strong older sibling” fans remember.
